AURaptor, Geezer, Kirkules, Whozit...anyone else I've shouted down, told to 'shut up', or made fun of in a mean & angry way...I'm ready to say sorry...not that I feel I was inherently wrong about most stuff, but because now is a time when we (I, at least) can drop the anger. I'm so happy with my fellow Americans...I'm proud of my country again. For the first time in my adult memory, I really have hope that we can be ONE nation. Sure, Obama won't (can't) fix everything, but he's a symbol of what we can do right, when we feel our way through.
Thanks also to Senator McCain, for a graceful congrats to the winner.

Now let's all get to debating the best way to fix this great nation.
And no more Palin jokes.

It's a nice gesture on your part, but I believe it's not really feasible. All victors initially speak of unity and joining, but then it never happens. It's easy to be magnanimous and gracious when you win, not so easy when you lose. I already see much gloating about Obama's big victory. If you take a step back and look at how it played out, it was much closer than most predicted, and the swing states that all went to Obama might have easily gone to McCain under different circumstances and a little more campaign time. The un-popularity of Bush and the failing economy were huge hurdles for McCain to overcome. He failed, but he really should never have been able to make it competitive in the first place. I actually do feel somewhat happy for those that voted for him and believed in him for so long, but the fundamental reasons I could not support him are still there for me. It will be hardest for people of my generation to accept this swing to the Left in America. I will try however. I will say here that I will not post anything negative about Obama at least until he's had several months as President. That's all the "graciousness" I can muster up this morning. Enjoy your victory.

In my life this is the fifth Presidential Election I've voted in. My candidate has lost three times. I like Mr. Obama. He seems a fine man and good father. His greatest flaw is that he has no experiance and no record. Soon neither of those things will be true and we can judge him for what he is, not for what he isn't. I look foreward to witnessing the history he will make.
I would ask a little consideration for the outgoing President. In approximately 77 days President Bush will give up the power we have given him in the great American tradition of the peaceful transition of power started by John Adams giving up power to his political rival Thomas Jefferson. People have said the worst of President Bush. They have called him a murderous tyrant and compared him to Hitler without ever realizing that the sound of their own voices give lie to their words. They have accused him of the ugliest crimes. He is simply a man, as all Presidents are, given the greatest power and most terrible responsibility a free man can have. Like all Presidents he was faced with unexpected challenges and struggled to overcome them to the best of his ability. We should honor his service now that he can finally begin to lay down the burdons history placed upon him.
I remain a conservative. I believe in fiscal responsibility, low taxes, responsible government, strict constructionalism, and strong defense. I believe in the moral values that have defined this nation: faith, family, love of country, and respect for law. I will continue to speak the truth of my heart and argue my cause. It is a just cause and one I believe is worth fighting for.

I, too, am elated that Obama won the election. I am not a US citizen, and i know some may say that means i'm not qualified or entitled to comment, but I strongly believe that Obama will put this nation back on track, and thus, the rest of the world also. I bashfully admit that I've fallen prey to anti-americanism in the past (not being a fan of Bush-style war war war) but this is a day for all Americans to be proud to be American.
What's surprising me is how much sympathy I feel towards the Republican camp right now, to the traditional right-wingers. It's been a long time since America saw a genuine left-wing approach, and it's going to be a heck of an adjustment for many people. I say to them, give Obama and his way a chance and i'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well things turn out
This is a momentous day. A black man in the White House. An intellectual in the White House. A liberal in the White House. A (comparative) pacifist in the White House. This is America making a positive statement and saying, 'we don't like what's been happening any more than the rest of the world, and we're determined to be the noble country that it's in our nature to be.

I think this nation is beyond repair. I really do. The GOP had its chance, had every opportunity to do the right things, and failed. Worst of all, it failed those who put them there in the first place, so eager to " reach across the aisle " , Bush was, only to have the other side gnaw his arm off. And what did he do ? Nothing. Or damn near nothing. Showed no or little leadership on key issues, and completely ran away from the illegal immigration issue.
Cowards. ALL of them. The Left and the Right. Barney Frank is a prime example of how the Left is every bit as poisonous as the Right. Blocked every attempt to reign in Fanny and Freddie, and then boldly lied ( much like Clinton ) that he had any part in the debacle. Bullshit.
Jack Murtha called our own Marines cold blooded killers, before the investigation had even concluded, and then every one of them was cleared of any wrong doing. He calls his own constiuents RACIST, and the very same hay seeds in Pennsylvania still elect him back into the Senate.
