Not so. There were a few, but their voices were either unheard of or laughed at.
I for one would have gladly supported a Paul, Kucinich ticket. No matter which one was running for president.
A Dem/Rep ticket that is neither really Dem or Rep by the current definition?
Now THAT is change I can believe in.

The 'middle' is now Left of Centre. The landscape has changed. It needs to swing to the FAR FAR right to carry this country back towards the centre

The un-popularity of Bush and the failing economy ...
ChrisIsAll:
If McCain had been allowed to be himself (he was obviously told to go for the throat), and if he'd picked a seasoned running mate, it very easily could have gone his way, IMO.
As I said before, I thought it was a contest between Bush and subtle and not-subtle racism. People were finding reasons to not connect with Obama. Despite Bush, it was a tight race until the mortgage industry collapsed.
If McCain had been in the driver's seat - if he'd been allowed to pick Lieberman, if he'd been allowed to run his campaign in the honorable way he gave his concession speech - he would have distinguished himself from them. He could have won.
But he was tied to the repubican party machine, caved to the religious right (no doubt a Rovian move), conceded his positions on a host of issues to the party line ...
And the race became Obama's to lose. Believe me, people were looking for a reason to turn on him.
The rest, as they say, is history.

I just found out why Sarah Palin never had the notes on what she was discussing during the debates- look at her intern, she can't even work the office equipment:

With all due respect, Chris, thanks, but no thanks...
Imma focus on making jugears understand who he works for, and dropping the boom on any attempt to exceed his Constitutional authority.
And I'd have really appreciated some help from the Conservative front, heaven knows I been practically beggin for it, and for weeks now with no response but apathy and hostility - seems most of them are too busy throwing petulant little temper tantrums, which is a damned shame, cause I coulda used a hand.
Worse than that, I fear that without some real gestures of bipartisanship, the impending investigations and housecleaning could very well turn into a witch hunt, an inquisition even, and while I would not feel a bit sorry given their behavior in the past six years, that's a bad bad road to be going down and it leads to ugly places.
And the current actions of much of the rightward end of the spectrum are only encouraging it by destroying any vestiges of sympathy the populace might have had for them via hostility and petulance.
If I weren't so concerned about it ACTUALLY going that way, I'd be mocking their fear and asking how they liked the taste of something every protester and leftward leaning person in america got force-fed at the hands of this administration with the help of the alphabet soup goons and a militarised police force - all the while pointing out they've got real army troops at hand now to help round em up more conveniently....
But the thing is, it COULD go that way, especially when some of this shit they've been sitting on and hiding comes to light as the press fawns over Obama trying to curry his favor so he doesn't kick them in the teeth via the FCC for their own misbehavior the last couple years.
And it sure as hell does NOT help matters that there are some organizers of folk, who want exactly that to happen, who will not be satisfied till they see people lynched for having GOP sympathies - that's a damned scary thought, isn't it ?
I don't care for those folk, and haven't been able to reason with em, but... even I have my limits, and without some evidence that the rightward end of the political spectrum isn't as completely foul as they believe (and to date, I've seen no evidence to the contrary, and all too much to support it)... then I am simply not going to stick my neck out by acting against them, assuredly not for folks I feel would stab me in the back the moment I turned to defend them, oh hell no.
Seriously, we *should* find it in ourselves to step up and prevent a witch hunt, but to be completely honest about it...
I can't, won't - call it a failure of character if you like, but I just cannot defend the indefensible.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it
