And still Hero, for everything you cite I could easily give you an example from the other side, and the distinction would still be that Obama's campaign has not fostered anti-Mccain sentiment, sentiment that goes to the heart of Mccain's motive, and patriotism.

I've read 4 different reports of this incident this morning (and at this point they don't differ much), and several things strike me as...funny...
1.)Rob first, then take a few extra seconds to mutilate as sort of an after-thought? If my original intent going in was to rob somebody at knife-point, I think my next original intent would be to get the hell away from the scene of the crime. I would have to be a hell of a lot more devoted to Obama than I am to hang around carving initials into the face of my victim. I would find this aspect a little more believable if the order of events was beating/monogramming followed by "Oh, and BTW, give me your dough."
2.) The photo on the 'Net shows what looks like a backward "B" on the lady's right cheek. It does not - in that photo, anyway - look like a deep cut; it looks more like a B-shaped scratch. I think you would have to take a little time and be careful to produce what's in the photo, that is, a fairly bloodless scratch instead of a jagged, bloody mess. And I'm pretty sure that scratching a "B" backwards into someone's cheek is at least a little more time-consuming than doing it forwards. (According to a couple of articles I read, no official police photo had yet been taken of the victim, and I haven't run across a credit yet for the photo that's appearing online.)
Okay, there was a 3.), but it got annexed by 2.). Anyway, echoing FMF, if this attack is the real deal, then my sympathies to the young lady and I hope they get the rat-bastard who did it. But I'm smellin' a whole lot of "Now, wait a minute" comin' off this scenario...

But the spin on Barrack is 'the chosen one'...seen very much as a negative cult of personality that is frightening to some people. McCain has no such image. In fact this image problem is a BIG part of the reason Barrack has failed to break away in this overwhelming Democratic climate (Berlin nearly sank him). One could reasonable argue that, but for the economic crisis, these polls are likely just as close, but with McCain on top.
One of the biggest mistakes the Democrats made was in not painting Palin with the 'chosen one' brush. Choosing instead to paint her as 'just another idiot' (which anyone who has seen her interviews, with one exception, or seen her speak in person can dispute). The personal attacks on her intellegence and character hurt the Democrats by elevating her status, making the public take real interest in her, and setting her up to exceed expectations again and again. They should have painted her as a media hound, cashing in on her 15minutes and as the conservative 'chosen one' and Hillary wanna-be which would have diluted many of the 'Barrack America' fears people have.

But Palin is the single most negative factor right now of the Mccain campaign Hero...people have not disagreed with those democratic attacks on Palin.
If your point is that Mccain and his campaign have succesfully painted Obama as the chosen one, well who the hell's fault is that?
He certainly hasn't said it personally, except for when he was mocking it at that fundraiser.
If some people see him as representing hope and a better tomorrow, who can blame them, really.
But Obama's politics are hardly messianic. He's more conservative than Presidents we've had in the past. He's just well left of Bush and Mccain, and that aint hard.

It smells a lot like those Swastika defacements which always seem to wind up actually committed by folks wanting to play victim to pull on the sympathy heartstring to me.
To be downright crassly blunt, I'm pretty sure she did that herself as a way to "justify" the unreasoning hatred she feels for anyone who doesn't see the world the way she does - I've seen that shit often enough to be fairly certain of it.
But on the other hand, lemme also be crassly blunt and straight fucking tell you - the Modern Republican Party *DESERVES* the level of hate you described, fully and utterly, due to their lies, economic destruction, invasions and slaughters, shovelling our money into the pockets of the rich, letting a buncha fucking terrorists loose on us under the guise of official sanction just because they supposedly work for us, never putting the towers back up, fucking over any right to privacy or to be left alone, letting our whole infrastructure crumble till it rots, I could go on for four HOURS and never run out of gas or repeat myself...
I say you should feel damn LUCKY that Liberals in general, and as a whole, are a merciful bunch, cause while I would not participate, if the rage ever tripped the million-monkey point and they started lynching you treacherous bastards, I would not participate, but damned if I would stop it either.

I'm not going to speculate what happened to her. We got a preliminary reporting on it, so I won't jump to this woman having done this to herself. If this happened to her, and worse, if this happened to her because of her choice of parties, I can't say that that kind of hatred is well placed. Just as you yourself said that you need the repubs to stay frosty and active when Obama gets into office, we really all do need each other to a great extent. this woman, unless, god forbid she really did do this to herself(and I don't have any facts to suggest this), is from my perspective, a believer.
It doesn't make her a bad guy to be in my opinion, wrong. It makes her misinformed, maybe, and I'm not going to hold 50 percent of our populace up as equally blamable for what has occured in this country. Granted, the problem is systemic, and we all are to blame, especially those of us who are misinformed, or are the misinformers...but there has been no collective call to get informed until recently(which is the one good thing about the financial crisis).
There has been no top down reminder of social and political responsibility of the citizen in this nation, there has been a breakdown in education, and a breakdown in values about just what the American Citizen is responsible for. All we were told was to let daddy take care of it while we go shopping.
It's hard to specifically blame each and every person for being ignorant in this country, when that seems to be an American Value after all.

Damn cretins SHOT at us, buncha religious ultra-crispy nutters took issue to a certain pagan gathering down there, started takin potshots at em - to which, one young ruthless bastard was sent in response, and after realizing truck radiators are damned expensive, the locals decided that maybe it wasn't worth botherin them no more... that was before I developed the depth perception issues which now make anythin more than a hundred yards a waste of ammo, though.
I don't doubt the chick was robbed, mind you, and whomever did it should have their balls crushed in a garlic press - but I have my doubts about the scratchwork, it's too damn neat for a thug, and that's comin from someone who used to BE one, yanno.
