Seriously guy, can't you post these articles into one of the many existing threads on the topic, rather than starting 20 new damned threads a day?

A summary of the tentative agreement released by Sen. Pelosi's office said the plan "gives taxpayers an ownership stake and profit-making opportunities with participating companies; puts taxpayers first in line to recover assets if a participating company fails; (and) guarantees taxpayers are repaid in full -- if other protections have not actually produced a profit."
I hope this turns out to be a good investment for us. Looks like there's going to be language in the legislation to protect our interests. This legislation just might prevent the Zombie apocalypse and make some money for the taxpayers in the end if we're lucky.

It might be a rare occurrence, but this time I've got to agree with Whozit.
Scary stuff.
And we MIGHT make some money off it, but we won't. Just like the S&L bailout before, the government will end up auctioning everything off for pennies on the dollar, and we'll get stuck footing the bill. And they'll probably create a new department of the government to oversee it all, costing us even MORE money, and that department will never be abolished, so we'll end up funding it into perpetuity...

I'm also willing to bet that the bulk of the current negotiation is the usual Washington ugliness with more concern over divvying up the spoils than in protecting taxpayer concerns.

Sarge, it's even uglier than you think, with partisan bickering over who's going to get credit if it works and blame if it doesn't, whose fault it is, whose fault the bailout is, etc.
What I know from bitter experience is that WE are the ones who are going to get well and truly screwed, not the idiots who engineered this whole mess.

While it certainly doesn't make me *love* the slimy Newt, I have to agree with some of what he says.
But at the heart of it, isn't what Paulson's asking for really right up the Republicans' alley? I mean, they HATE oversight and regulation, and he's offering them absolutely none. Seems like a marriage made in... well, made in Hell, actually.
