Fay hits Florida, but doesn't become hurricane
NAPLES, Fla. – Tropical Storm Fay moved inland Tuesday after making landfall in southwest Florida, never growing into the hurricane that forecasters had cautioned it could become.
Traffic was light in Naples as rain swept roads littered with palm fronds and other minor debris. There was street flooding in spots, some downed trees and minor storm surge damage was reported in Everglades City to the south.

Here now.....what w/ all this talk of climate change and all, why didn't this storm become a cat 5 over night and kill 1000's ??
Weren't we told that's what we should expect ? MORE killer storms like Katrina ???

Fay is'nt a scary name, big storms should have scary names.

Hello,
To edify those of you who don't live in Florida, the rainstorms get names given to them by the weather folk when they become significant enough that they may potentially progress into becoming Hurricanes. The weather folk call them 'Tropical Storms' when they reach this stage, and upgrade them to 'Hurricane' if they show enough juice to warrant the title.
Rainstorms that don't have the potential to become Hurricanes, the ones you call Thursday, are the ones Floridians call Morning, Noon, and Night. In Hialeah where I grew up, every major street had a canal next to it. That city has almost as many canals as Venice. It's where we drain our rainwater, litter, and murder victims, sending them out to sea.

Katrina wasn't a scary name. Who do you think of when you hear 'Katrina' ? You think ' Katrina and the Waves and their hit - Walkin' on Sunshine. What a happy, fun song!

Looks like it'll get another chance... seems Fay has gone into the Atlantic, AFTER gainingh strength over the Everglades and Lake Okeechobee, and may still develop into a full-fledged hurricane yet.
