Great idea for a thread BTW. I have been writing SciFi for a while (nothing published) and always like cultural textures I can add to a story.

I'm making an educated guess here, so bear with me, but I think that "Verpiss dich, vixer!" means something like Screw you, you wanker!, to use a British equivalent. I think you might be right, it might have a stronger meaning in German than in English. One thing I know for sure is that you don't use Arsch/ass very lightly. One guy in my German class (a frat boy, go figure), called my prof an Arsch, and the prof was REALLY upset. The frat boy kept trying to explain that ass doesn't really mean anything serious in English, but I don't think my prof really understood. Very awkward.

Need some foreign swears in Pashto? Here's a few:

Stha dha moor = your mothers'..... (used to express exasperation - similar to [Mal's favourite] the Chinese ta ma da - your mothers'...)

(the following could be used to complete the above or stand alone):

Ghul = shit

Ku nah tee = ass or butt cheeks

Kuss = female genitalia (but more like c**t)

Huthi sur = elephants head! (expressing disbelief in something ridiculous)

rook sha murra = get lost man... (go away or leave me alone or what you are saying is ridiculous so shut up).

bain choda = sister f**ker

no nay = di*k ( a childlike term, e.g. 'willy')

I use combine these with English - they sound pretty good to me! Cheers.

I love swearin...some might even say I'm addicted to it. In the last 15 years, I think I might have made it all the way through 1 day/night of work/school without using at least one. I used to just bring $10 or $20 to put in the "swear jar" at the beginning of a shift so people would get off my ass about it (I can think of at least one occasion where that didn't cover my tab...not good). I did manage to make it through a shift without bellowing any at the top of my lungs where the general pulic might hear me, though. That experience was kinda like that old Bugs Bunny cartoon where Yosemite Sam gets money knocked off his inheritance every time he loses his temper...God, I miss Yosemite Sam....

Anyway, what was I goin to talk about here?

Oh, yeah, the foreign language swearing...I'm always up for a good cussin' so I've really enjoyed readin this thread. I wanted to tell you about my Vietnamese swear words...but I can't remember any of 'em. My friend nearly died listening to me attempting to repeat the bad words back to her in my slow Southern drawl (yeah, there's a mental image for you. Here's another, when I try to speak Spanish, I sound exactly like Peggy Hill on King of the Hill.) She said she "couldn't do anymore," she just "couldn't take it." I can just imagine. She barely gasped out those words before continuing to laugh hysterically...
