Well, OK. I'll never go anywhere near Fox "news"
I will heartily second that emotion.... Fox Fake News - but I've got to say that it seems that the other major network news programs have suffered lately as well - NewsHour on PBS is still the best bet, imo...
As for Fox programing... i don't watch it very much - I never started the Connor Chronicles... but I have watched New Amsterdam... mainly on HuLu..... and like it (although my liking a program is usually the kiss of death).... I will give Dollhouse a chance - cause I owe Joss that much - but that brings up another question.. and this may sound harsh, but after all the grief Fox put Joss through over FF - (and I know a job is a job - we all have to eat and drive big fancy cars...
)... but doesn't going back to Fox make Joss just a little bit of a chump..?? A very cool chump but a chump all the same....NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
I'm just not watching it because other then Firefly I don't really like Joss Whedon's stuff and the new show hasn't made me go "Wow, maybe I should change my mind".

I still don't like FOX mainly for it's glaringly annoying commercials of it's countless Reality shows and those annoying popup adds at the bottom of the screen(Everyone else has them but Fox's seem to be larger). I will however be giving Dollhouse one hell of a chance. I'll watch as many episodes as I possibly can and be sure to note my feelings on the appropriate threads that will no doubt be numerous here at FFF.net.
Also I am starting to think the Fox hateing is getting a little bit overblown as well.
P.S. I too will not watch Fox news if the world was ending and it was the only news network still on the air. Which was the only reason I told the Fox-Hater at the bar guy he did a good job, the guy said he was from Fox News.

I watch a few shows on FOX, House, Terminator.....
I won't watch any of their reality crap though. I like my brain cells too much!!!!
As much as I don't like FOX for how they mishandled Firefly, even Joss has said the old guard is gone, and the new guard seems to be behind his new show. They skipped a Pilot request, and ordered half a season. That's quite a gamble on their part, and it shows a lot of faith in Joss, and this was done BEFORE the strike!
I keep seeing people here asking why Joss went back to FOX. Lets look at the facts people. Eliza's series deal is with FOX. Joss created "The Dollhouse" for as a vehicle for her. Because of her deal with FOX, it's has to be there. Joss didn't have any say in that.
Here's a thought, if "The Dollhouse" is a hit, don't you think it will give Joss leverage to get something going again with Firefly? Universal owns the movie rights, but FOX still has series rights, and getting a mini-series or a made for TV movie based on the series would have to be backed by Fox Television. The only way Universal might green light a Serenity sequel, would be for theatrical release, or a direct to DVD movie like BSG-Razor!
A Joss hit on TV can only be a good thing for us, so YES, I will be watching!
I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

Thanks for some excellent and well reasoned points.

Quote:I caught a clip of a James Brown bio a while back. I don't recall the details, I guess he went through a phase of pretty serious fighting with a record label in the early 60s(?). It was ugly and nasty and JB talked about how he had to keep his independence and such - and then Bam! He went and signed a contract with them.

This was early in his career, and a lot of what he's now best known for came out of that deal. If he'd stewed in his resentment and pride and not "sold out," we'd all have lost out. Not only on his stuff, but he's influenced sooo many artists.
I just thank goodness that Joss isn't one to keep a tight grip on his bitterness, because I want to see more of his stuff. I don't want him sitting in a dark corner somewhere drowning himself in beer while shaking a fist and yelling - "Hell yeah! I showed those Fox bastards!" I want him on a set making entertainment. NOW, gorammit!

Really, the whole concept of artists "selling out" only makes me smile and recall how Maynard dealt with a similar accusation:
All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb f***.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip sh*t,
And you bought one.
(OK, so it's a little heavy-handed. It's Tool, after all.
And please - I don't quote it to call anyone here names, I just really like the song.)Show business is a business. We've all bought into one of Joss's shows. That doesn't mean we own HIM. Doesn't mean we have to keep buying either.

Nowhere in the 'guy at the bar thread' was it said that the Fox guy was from Fox News. It was stated plainly in the first post that the Fox guy was in development.

Other than that, Fox can go hang.

What else can I add besides, I'll be watching Dollhouse, but only 'cause it's Joss and Eliza, doing it.
