Mexican Coke

Yep I think its better than American Coke. Its the unraveling of the empire. You have to go down to Nogales to smuggle it across the border. The key is they use pure sugar cane. And also its that glass bottle taste that helps. Now Red Rock Cola out of Atlanta is pretty tasty. So is Boylans. Uh what did ya think I was talking about. Nafta has failed it was suppose to provide me with cheap coke. Not that plastic tasting stuff on the shelves. Remember how good Dr Pepper was now its like perfume. I am tellen ya the end of the empire.

Ah, a personal love of mine: hard to find sodas!

You're right- cane sugar makes all the difference in the world. Dublin Dr Pepper outside of Ft Worth TX still uses cane sugar. As far as I can tell, you can only get coke with sugar from Mexico and at passover.

There are a lot of smaller bottlers that make sodas with sugar, especially root beer. Boylans is one of the biggest.

Now if you want to talk root beer....

You can get Mexican coke in some of the Mexican brands grocery stores in Chicago. Expensive though so it's a special treat not an everyday drink.

Spring Grove Soda made in Spring Grove, Minnesota, still uses cane sugar, and it is soooooo delicious. It's a treat we only buy when we are having out of town guests.

You can get it at almost any "supermercato" Mexican grocery store. We go at least once a month and get 6-8 bottles. I can't even drink regular Coke anymore, it's nowhere near as good as the Mexican coke.

Here is SC we have a chain of Mexican supermarkets -- Compare Foods. They carry an entire aisle of Mexican sodas including cane sugar Coke. It's a half liter in a recycled glass bottle. They go for $1.39, not too bad.
My husband is in love with them. He always reminds me to grab one (and an Argentinian empanada) while I'm there.
I just like the bottles. They look like they've been through hell & back. If those bottles could talk....

My grandfather had a small department store here in the small town of Washington, NC. He kept the small bottles of cane sugar Coke in a refrig next to his office upstairs with a small plastic box with a slit in the top for payment. Honor system of course.

My greatest pleasure as a small child was to put my coins in the box and pull out a bottle that was so cold that it had ice crystals around the glass lip.

Alas, both the Coke and the store are gone but maybe if I can find a Mexican market with it or bribe someone who lives near Dublin, TX for a Dr. Pepper I'll get to relive those memories.
