So, I've been feeling this vauge kind of depression for the last few weeks...

I thought it was just a small case of the Serenifunk but it turns out I caught full blown FLD... (I read about it here: http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/FLD)
... Turns out, FireFly is the entertainment version of Crack! Why didn't anybody warn me? I feel like I'm losing my Gorram mind!

Yeah you know how it happens... Sure, I'd seen the movie, and yeah, I saw a few episodes here and there. ...But I was just experimenting, ya know? Well, next thing I know, BAM! I've got FLD...

Now all of a sudden the first thing I think of when I open my eyes in every morning is Firefly. Brushing my teeth? FireFly. Taking a shower? FireFly. I have two jobs and I can't focus on either one...

And I've lost interest in other things... For instance, I WAS looking forward to new seasons of Basttlestar and Eureka with great enthusiasm. But now I don't really care, I'm just a shell of a BSG Fan... Sure, I'll watch em, but just take my mind off FireFly. See! It's turned me into a user...

So anyway I decided to join a local Browncoat group on Yahoo! But I've never joined a user group before ...WTF is wrong with me? The only thing that makes me feel ANY better at all is watching the FireFly\Serenity DVDs or voting at TV_Vote to keep FireFly at number one...

Is this what life has been like for FireFly fans since the series and then the movie? If so, I would ask them, is it REALLY better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all? ...-Oh, I would also ask, does anyone know where I can get a Jayne T-Shirt?

Oh, how I share your pain...It all sounds horribly familiar (including the joining the Browncoat group - the first time I've ever done anything like that!). I hadn't realised it was a well-documented malady so thank you for helping me to diagnose my symptoms. For me, I resisted completely until last Xmas. Then you know how it goes. On a whim you buy the all the gear and settle in to experiment. Like many before me the addiction was pretty much instant.

It's a pity that the only cure has not yet been fully developed by scientists (or networks!) and is still only theoretical at the moment.

If you can, try to embrace other sci-fi. Remember, Joss will be tuning to the new season of BSG so there is a connection there. It will never replace FF/S, obviously, but you have to try to live a little in the now. And keep campaigning, watching, meeting with Browncoats.

It is better to have loved and lost, but no-one said it was going to be easy....QED FLD

Watching other Sci-fi will remind you how terrible most of it is.

Unfortunately, there is no known cure. Apart from more Firefly... and we know how scarce that is.

Sorry, it's FLD; it stands for Firefly Letdown Disease. Here is the Link: http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/FLD

Now are we talking a genetic sickness or addiction here? If it’s a mental sickness I’m getting this image of an asylum full of white coated (more likely brown) straitjacketed lu/lues walking around spouting FF/Serenity dialogue. Another thing, can one of the symptoms be kinda like the tourett’s syndrome where if you come into close contact with another fan you immediately begin to start sputtering things like, “Browncoat, Firefly, Serenity, Big Damn Movie?”
I’m just wondering because, well I may have FLD. Come to think of it there’s no doubt, I am afflicted. Wait a minute I’m getting a vision, “Go ahead and laugh sir but our facetious Allied governmet know about FLD and if stricken it will haunt your dreams and yes harrow your very soul!”

So coming to FFF.net (or any other such fan site) is like a group of folk sitting in a circle at an AA meeting and confessing to their addiction to FF/BDM?

Well here goes. Ok my friends I’m a FF junkie. Been stricken for over 2 years now. Ain’t no end in sight nether……

Yes it is painful to have loved and lost but it is still more painful to hit yourself on the toe with a hammer!!

I have gone through periods of obstinance. But they are short and when I slip the well used DVD back in the player I am off again. I religiously watch it as the episodes are layed out because that is how Joss wanted to place them in the DVD set. I know this is not the original order but Joss is God. I would go straight for my favorites but I can not make up my mind which are my favorites. The one I am watching at the time is my favorite. How many times can I hear "Ain't we just" and never get tired of it. It is like holy chant. Now I ahve a name for something I knew was real. I have FLD. To watch is to live. To see Jayne's face pressed against the glass pleading with Mal not to tell the others how he died. All these and more are in my blood. And what do I do? I come here and discuss it with others. "Well here I am".

I'm with GB, who said: I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss The Dance. Our lives are better left to chance.

Take the risk. Savor the love.
