Aww yeah, it's been a while since I read Fray. Can't see it being him, Twilight seems a bit too powerful for a vampire/lurk.

I see we are now getting a Spike: After the Fall and an extension of Angel: ATF. I can't help but feel disappointed, why can't they just let a great TV series be?

It may seem strange that I'm reading Buffy season 8 but not ATF. Let me explain. Joss ended Buffy on at season 7 by choice. He then chose to continue the series by comic - we are seeing what Joss wanted us to. Joss had Angel cancelled on him. Him and the writers did an unbelievable job to rewrite and conclude the series on what was (IMO) a perfect moment. Now it's continued in comic form, how can it be anything other than a pale imitation of what Joss wanted?

Now I find season 8 entertaining, but I was always felt Buffy/Angel were more than entertainment. Maybe it's because I'm new to the comic genre, but how can a comic be anything more than entertaining. Take the final scene from 'A Hole in the World'. If that was translated to comic, would it retain any of the emotion? I don't think so. Maybe that makes me a poor reader, that I lack the imagination to translate the page into 'reality'. So I'll keep reading season 8, and I probably will pick up the ATF collection (they are called trade paperbacks?) sometime. But it will be as a curiosity, nothing more (a bit like Fray was I guess).

I think that deep down (and I don't think that I will be the only one out there), for me, barring any miracle resurrections, the Buffyverse ended with an alley, rain and "Let's go to work."

Except they didn't do much re-writing for the series finale. Joss and Jeff Bell have both said that the only thing that was done different due to the cancellation was

killing off Wesley.

Other than that, they ended it exactly the same as they would have if they'd been coming back for S6.

I felt the same way as you before the "Angel" comics came out. I was psyched about "Buffy" S8, but pretty 'ho-hum' about "Angel", and for the same reason: the ending of "Not Fade Away" was SO perfect, how could you top that? Why even try, by re-opening the story?

I was wrong. "After the Fall" has been absolutely FANTASTIC so far. Brian Lynch has the characters down so well it's just a shame he never got to write for them on TV, and he's using not only a lot of his own ideas, but a lot of the original plans Joss had for S6. If you give it a try, it might win you over just like it did me...
