Having been there to see the original I am going to have a hard time seeing others cast in these so familiar roles. I will see it. I should give it a chance.

As for where the ship was built. I suspect the various sections were built on the ground and then final assembly was done in space. Like our space lab. If the entire ship were assembled on the ground than that would mean it was always capable of landing and it never did. The only ship I ever saw with that capacity to land was Voyager.

According to the DS9 technical manuals, the Defiant-class also had planetfall capabilities (well, it had landing gear).

And it's likely that the teaser imagery won't be in the movie (not 'cause of the on-planet construction, but because it's bad luck to paint a ship's name on her before she's finished).

Personally, I was always more of a 24th Century Man (I grew up with TNG), but I'm eager to see this, if only to see how modern visual styles will portray the pre-TOS Enterprise.

Ok at the risk of revealing how much I watch reruns of TNG... doesn't the Enterprise land in least once of the episodes? I may be thinking of the episode of Voyager though. And I don't mean in Generations when it's crashes... Also, didn't the Enterprise enter the atmosphere in one of the TOS movies? I may have just either proved to myself I am a Trekkie or proved to you all how I am totally not.

I'm not a Trekkie...but I am a fan. I'm most familiar with TNG (used to watch it with my dad as a kid) but I also enjoy TOS and Voyager. DS9 is hit and miss for me. That being said, I'm looking forward to this movie. I understand the folks who have issues with the whole thing but it looks well cast and well directed, so I will withhold judgement untill I have actually seen it.

To those here that are wanting to see a VOYAGER movie....wasn't the series finale, End Game good enough? I really love that episode; probably have seen it 20 times. It has everything in it & wrapped up the series in a terrific and surprising manner. I can't think of anything else they could come up with for this crew, except some follow-up on their lives in the new time-line that Janeway created. What would you want to potentially see in a movie?

Aslo.....Those Next Generation cast movies were all pretty good, but wouldn't it have been awesome if they could have built a movie around one of the finest episodes in Trek history...The Inner Light? They could have had Picard go back in time a thousand years & actually meet and live with all the friends and family that he "lived" with during his 25-minute lifetime experience. He could have time travelled in a variety of ways....the warp-breakaway method, the Guardian of Forever method, or the Bajoran orb method.

The landing you speak of was on Voyager- Enterprise entered atmo in Naked Time, Tomorrow Is Yesterday, and more fatal-y in ST3.
