Okay, the theme made me take notice, and seeing the word 'Enterprise' across a hull always thrills me- but I still don't like the revisionism. I plan to hate it, yet I will see it- that seem right to you?

Actually, producer Damon Lindelof has called the film a "re-invigoration" and "re-vitalization. However, it is not a reboot and is within canon.

If memory serves, the Enterprise was assembled in drydock...in space, not in Area 51 or whatever...

You're memory is wrong. It has never been said that the Enterprise was constructed in space. In fact, according to the Enterprise's dedication plaque, the ship was built at the "San Francisco Yards."

That the ship was built in space, is simply something that a lot of fans have assumed...without any evidence.

Abrams and the producers have confirmed that the film's within the continuity of the rest of the franchise. From what I gather, the movie, however will have a different tone/mood from any previous Star Trek film...at least that's what I think.

As usual, I mostly agree with chrisisall. I will of course be seeing it, but I plan to hate it, though perhaps for entirely different reasons.

Did they not learn anything from the Star Wars prequels??? I WANT MY VOYAGER MOVIE!

I am not liking this, I am not liking this. I was at yes a book store without porn in it and behold scifi mag with pictures of no sweet baby jane the new Star Trek. It reminded me of the first time I saw my mother necked it just didn't seem right.

It's a good teaser done in the right way for getting people interested. If you see this in a cinema it has the slow reveal of what they are building. Hardcore fans getting it first, general fans later, and then with the music and the words Enterprise, everyone else falls in line.

At the moment I kind of feel about this how I did about early Indy 4 stuff. Wishing they'd leave it alone, hoping they don't screw it up, but still with a tingling of anticaption that it might actually be good.
Now I'm looking forward to Indy 4 but still cautious and I can see my feelings changing towards ST in a similar way. And I was always more of a fan of the movies than the TV shows (TOS excluded), and I own all the movies, but only one season (DS9 7) on DVD.

I too will be there on opening night. It's just one of those movies you have to see on the big screen.
