buffy's alienation from the ladies

it's an irony I'd almost forgotten. She of the leading many women - has only one real female friend and is suspicious of other female friendships (seemingly).
I think this more than anything else accounts for her unease with Tara and Kennedy.

Her relationsips (not just boyfriends) with men - for all their ups andd downs are more lasting, real and friendly.

I know 'the hero alone' is standard generic - angel etc but Buffy's has an interesting gender edge.

Malcolm Reynolds seems fairly even handed (in that he's never really close with anyone!) he has Zoe, he has Monty etc - but i wonder if he would feel comfortable around too many fellas (he likes attention) or would it remind him uncomfortably of soldiering days gone...

I don't think Buffy was uneasy with Tara. If so, why would she tell Tara about her relationship with Spike and not tell Willow?

for the very reason that Tara didn't rate as 'significant' enough for her reaction to count. Buffy felt ashamed to tell Willow because her opinion would be valued.

A lot of people seize on outsiders to off load to. it aint necessarily a conscious thing.
