The success of the Firefly fans has inspired another fan group to band together to support our show.

There are those who *still* believe....

A group of the 1978-79 Battlestar Galactica (BSG) series fans, the Colonial Fan Force, is seeking fellow Colonial Warriors to help in a campaign to reach out to Glen Larson (series creator and holder of the theatrical film rights) and Tom DeSanto (writer/producer, X-men, X2, and producer of his own derailed BSG revival attempt). Our purpose is to encourage these gentlemen to bring about a big screen continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica story.

Our goal is to purchase ads in September issues of Daily Variety and Cinescape. We are already halfway to that goal, guaranteed to run at least one full page ad, with 2.5 months to raise the balance for the 2nd ad. If you enjoyed this show back in '78 or in any of its rebroadcasts since, we can use your help.

The effort has been endorsed by original series stars Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, Jack Stauffer, Jane Seymour, original composer Stu Phillips, and from Sci-Fi's recent remake: writer/producer Ronald D. Moore and actor Aaron Douglass.

Congratulations on your movie, I missed most of the series, bought the DVDs (love them) and will be at the theatre with you when Serenity releases. Keep flying!

I'm torn. I loved the original series. I can remember as a child sitting in my kitchen watching the clock move ever so slowly from 7:55 to 8pm. The five minutes before Galactica where the longest.

But I loved the SciFi miniseries. Sure I scoffed at female Starbuck and the other changes, but in the end I was converted. Now I hear Hatch is coming aboard for next season. Still disappoited by evil girl Boomer. I always liked Boomer.

So what I'm saying is good luck, but lets face it, a return of the original is not going to happen now. Your best chance was the late 90's. I think the Wing Commander movie blew it for you.

Richard endorsed it because it's supporting a continuation that the original cast and the fans want them to try to make. Even though Richard took a guest spot on the Sci-Fi series, his heart is ever with the original premise. We don't know why Ron Moore endorsed this effort other than perhaps "more of a name brand is a good thing in Hollywood's eyes," but we thank him for his endorsement too. This Fan Force effort has been a combined collective of fans of both old series fans and new series fans that see the value of the original series' story going on. That in itself has been a healing thing for the fanbase.

Larson and DeSanto ticked me off with the remake. Sorry, I'm a purist.
I would liked to have seen Hatch's original short.

you are wrong about the timing: it's not been better and though it is hard to believe: the SciFi miniseries has helped rekindle interest in the original series. Many people watched and didn't like it because of of some of the reasons you talked about. But it did cause people to buy or rent the original series to see it again or for the 1st time.
Things on our side:
1) DVD box set sales established the market is larger than Universal ever imagined
2) there is a wider variety of licensing of original series themed BSG items than there was in 1999 and 2000 (Larson/Moyer years you alluded to).
3) Mr. Larson has more rights to the show than he had at the time of the Moyer project
4) Mr. DeSanto had a faithful continuation pilot in preproduction with sets partially built when Sept. 11th caused delays that caused Fox to bail out in favor of Firefly. (Yes you got our timeslot and we still liked your show on it's own merits :D).
5) Fans of both series (SciFi's new one and the original) are supporting the effort to bring about this continuation.
6) Glen Larson told us he was interested in working with Tom DeSanto, Tom DeSanto told us all that mattered was that interest in the original continues.

So pardon me if I don't think this isn't the best time to be a Galactica fan.:D

Beatle: How could they tick you off with a remake? they never made one.Ron Moore and David Eick made that thing that was on Scifi last December.

Indeed this is the first chance L&D had at possibly working together. Not with just Larson as a consultant to DeSanto/Singer's production.

It's not the right time for Richard's dream so he's putting his focus into his Great War of Magellan project.

Just this past weekend many of the original cast were at MegaCon in Orlando. There was a panel discussion on Sunday with :

Dirk Benedict
Herb Jefferson Jr.
Anne Lockhart
Melody Anderson
3 of the new Galacticans ( Baltar, Seelix, Kat)

It was enlightening & terrific. I had a smile from ear to ear. I was in Galactica heaven! One gets the impression from these folks that even they themselves do not fully realize the impact their show had on us sci-fi fans back in 1978 and still today. They are a very modest and humble bunch, and their quiet dignity is quite rare and refreshingly admirable.

Dirk clearly calls himself a retired actor, and he lives in Montana with his family. He shuns publicity, and only recently started going to these Cons. He is still Starbuck in many ways. He's brash and outspoken, has the great hair, and smokes cigars and drinks booze.

Herb regrets that his character Boomer never really had a chance to develop further beyond the support role he played. But you could tell from his stories that he loved the show.

Anne is like the Mother Earth cool gal that you wish was your best friend. She is amazing and has a great sense of humor. When I spoke to her later at her signing table, we laughed together about the Triad uniforms, and we also discussed her role on Buck Rogers as Jennifer / Lelia Markeson. She really liked that guest part.

Melody Anderson played Brenda Maxwell in the episode Experiment In Terra. We discussed how that episode was different than all the others, and the fact it had a strange alter-Earth feel to it. I asked her if she ever thought that her 15 minutes of acting on that show would ever still be memorable after 30 years and she said absolutely not. She's a great lady too.

So, Battlestar Galactica Movie....frakkin' A!
