Hello Rue,

Thank you for finally being specific about your observations and grievances.

In fact, I'm not thinking of track as in 'stalk' or 'hunt down.' I totally understand that I'm meant to observe Geezer for some kind of pattern in his posts.

I haven't detected any, yet, beyond a support for the police and a dislike for Clinton. This doesn't seem like the kind of pattern Signy wanted me to find. Else he might have said, "Yes, that's it! He supports the police and doesn't support Clinton!"

And in any case, that seems like a strange thing to spend time observing someone for.

Signy claims not to want to taint my observations, which is why he won't tell me what I'm looking for. But if I'm looking for something, I'm already tainted. If I was going to notice what he wants me to notice, I'd have noticed it without being asked to do so.

Asking any one of us to observe any other one of us for unnamed patterns feels wrong to me. If Signy detects a pattern of something interesting in someone's posts, and he wants other people to see it, he ought to state his premise and cite examples to support it.

It reminds me of Porky's (the film.) Q: "Why do you call that girl a dog?" A: "If you date her, you'll find out."

It's not useful or helpful in any way. Less Tracking, More open statements.

And please, Rue, fewer insults and attacks. I don't deserve what you've said to me.

BTW now I WILL be getting back later - in an extended nit-picking way of course - to post at length your snark to SignyM from another thread - as SignyM heroically tries to keep the thread on topic. What will your excuse be then, I wonder ?

This is so frustrating! I agree with Rue that this thread is scary - for those who don't follow all RWED threads, opening a post saying: "Track this guy" is awful big brotherish and sure doesn't make me feel good about posting here. It sounds downright hostile, although I later figured out that you didn't mean it the way it sounded.

On the other hand - Rue! Cut it out! I almost always 100% agree with you, and I know you're capable of really good arguments. But then you go all hostile and it ruins everything. You bring the discussion down, and you make my side (our side) of the debate sound bad. You do us injury, my dear.

You don't have to accept every invitation to dance. (And on this thread, you weren't even invited! You started the name-calling. Why, oh why?)

I think we all track one another's on-line opinions, personas, and what we can glean of personal histories over time. In fact we probably track even more things than I can think of off hand.

I think even you have tracked people. And I think you've tracked SignyM to be topic-oriented and fair. To look at ONE WORD to cavil at ???? And post a thread on it ??? While all sorts of snark and insult TO SignyM goes right by you without pause on your part ?

But SignyM did say "Track". If you take people's words at face value, that is what was meant. Any reason not to take SignyM's words at face value?

Maybe you want to alter Humpty Dumpty's rule 'When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.' into 'When someone else uses a word, it means just what Rue chooses it to mean, neither more nor less.' I seem to recall a book about that. "WAR IS PEACE; FREEDOM IS SLAVERY; IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH"?

observe or plot the moving path of something
awareness of something occurring or passing
That was what was meant.
