A Firefly Moment

It's kind of like what my parents call a senior moment - when they're caught wondering what it was they were thinking about no less than 2 seconds ago.
A Firefly moment is similar - it's that moment when you're at work or in the car, or just out and about something brings Firefly so close to mind that it makes you miss the next 2-5 minutes of whatever happens to be going on around you.
Case in point: My art school orientation last Saturday. A fella in a suit and tie picks up the complimentary basket of candy and starts tossing sweets at us. Some of the students who weren't paying attention got hit rather than catching and his comrades gave him some grief about it. When he got around to introducing himself, he said "MY name's Russ (Something). If I hit you with the candy, my name's Mike (Something)."
In my mind I heard "RussMike" and then "YoSafBridge." At that moment Russ became "RussMike" and shall forever remain so. This Firefly moment is likely the reason why I don't remember his last name.
I've seen him twice since, and I'm sure he's thinking he ought to know why I smile like that every time I see him.

I work at an oil refinery and once a month we do fire training. We have a small fire monitor mounted on wheels that is called a Firefly. The instructor always tells the class that the advantage of using the Firefly in fighting a fire is that you can move it quickly and get it close to the fire.
It brings tears to my eyes.

Last week I was in Home Depot, and a guy stocking some hardware knocked over several boxes of door locks. Of course, you know what came into to my head.
Uh oh, another box-dropping, man-ape gone wrong thing.

I too, have had the occasion of Firefly coming into my head. I more or less have had too many to speak of, or to remember, but I did one time get very angry with a friend of mine and started to swear in the Chinese from Firefly. My friend had no clue what I was talking. I also say Gorram whenever I need to make a point. My friends ask "What are you talking about?" What am I talking about, indeed...

I was at a dinner party last week where I only knew about 1/3 of the people. A new couple sat down at the other end of the table and I heard the guy introduce himself as "Mal"...I couldn't help but immediately turn and look. LOL!
Burn the land, boil the sea...

A new play just started at the theatre where I work and I was totally thrown off when I saw that one of the actresses has the first name Jayne, spelt with the "Y". She's playing "Death".
I actually said aloud "Hey, Death's name is Jayne!"
My coworkers stared at me blankly so I just amused myself with a clip show in my head.

I am surprised sometimes by the things that remind me of Firefly. It can be something as simple as the way someone speaks, or a word or phrase from the show that I hear on TV or on the radio.
The most recent example I can think of is when my step daughter said "Nothing can stop me" and what I heard was River saying "No power in the verse can stop me". Imagine my eight year old's surprise when I busted out laughing at her.
"May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

I went to see Kevin Smith speak day before yesterday, which he does as all Q&A.
I don't even recall which person asking which question it was, but at one point Kevin asks them a question back like, "Well, have you...?"
And the guy replies, "Not so much."
My brain just automatically derailed to Firefly. 
"Wacky fun..."

I was just looking in the Excel spreadsheet containing the giving records for the church where I work. There, on the right hand side, was the notation "RIVER 03"
It was made for a music group who gave a concert last year, but that wasn't the first thing I thought of.
River's still smiling in my head... should I be worried?

So today. . .we're getting ready for an awards ceremony and a bunch of us volunteer to sweep the hangar floor.
This one young soldier who works in Spidermonkey's shop is sitting there grousing about the task, not being to bright, either and I look up and say:
"Clint. . .your mouth is talkin'. You might want to look to that."
Me and Spider exchanged knowing glances.
