Last week my wife said she bought me a little surprise. A week later my first Firefly tee-shirt comes in the mail. The shirt's a sort of brown-ish color, and says "Browncoat" on the front, and "I aim to misbehave" on the back.

I think what I love most about this shirt is that only a true browncoat would recognize it. It doesn't say Serenity or Firefly on it, so only someone who really knows the show would understand it.

So anyways, I decided that a good day to wear this for the first time would when I took the family to the Michigan Renaissance Festival this past weekend.

Imagine my surprise when I had close to a dozen people come up to me throughout the day and tell me how much they loved Firefly, or that "The alliance rules" (don't ask ), etc.

Considering not one of my family or friends had ever heard of Firefly I just didn't think too many people out in the public would recognize that shirt. But not only had people recognized it, but they felt so strongly about it that they went up to a perfect stranger and mentioned it.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Has Firefly truly become that popular?

that is so cool. and, yes...

when rehearsing a really really long scene in a play once, the cast and i were all sitting on stage motionless for about half an hour waiting for the crew to fix technical stuff. when the stage manager asked how i was doing (it was a very uncomfortable position) i said, "oh, yeah...shiny". the guy right next to me looked up and with a big shocked smile on his face and said, "Yeah! Shiny!"

Found out later that several people in the cast were BIG fans of the show. Which led to many fun cast parties thereafter.

I also have an Oatey Bar shirt...i do get folks coming up every now and then to say how much they love it...and the show.

That's a shiny wife you have there Houdini.

I too have that shirt and I wear it often. It is so cool to have browncoats walk up and talk to you because of the shirt. It makes a great icebreaker.

You picked a good place to wear that shirt. A ren faire would have lots of us, I should think.

About the only place I get any recog for my shirt(s) is at Hot Topic, but then again those kids are trained to observe any clues about a customer to guide him or her to buy more, and a tee-shirt is not a very subtle clue. Next time I'll wear my Orig Star Trek dangle earrings and see what they offer to sell me.

I was wearing my blue sun T, eating ice cream with my mother and someone walked by with pretty much the exact same shirt! She was past before I could pop out and say hello but it was sure freaky.

Another day, a guy walked along on the other side of the street wearing a Serenity T.

The only place mine get recognized is the comic book store. I make sure I wear one every month as I pick up my Buffy #8.

I keep hopeing and hopeing to find an "Aim to Misbehave" shirt at Hot Topic, yet every time I go in they are eather between shipments, or just got a shipment in but none in my size, or just got a shipment in and sold out in a matter of hours... and I'm thinking to myself, "what in the HELL?" Because I haven't personally found many browncoats in my neck of the 'verse... so I wonder where all these shirts are going...

I have the Serenity movie logo T, and one of Jayne's shirts, the pinup girl one, along with an "I'm a leaf on the wind" shirt that I made myself with iron-on printer paper.

I have yet to have anyone comment on any of the shirts, except for one guy who liked the pinup girl but didn't recognize it from the show, nor had he ever heard of Firefly.

Also, I have only seen one other person in my town with a 'verse-related shirt. A guy in Barnes & Noble had a Blue Sun shirt and I commented on it, but unfortunately was not wearing either of my Firefly shirts at the time.

I think they are getting snatched up by people who don't get the reference, just like the idea of misbehaving:)
