I love threads like these, until I realise how much I love movies, and that its almost impossible for me to narrow them down
I mean the star wars movies add up to five on their own! (I dont count phantom menace)
And the LOTR trilogy is as long as five movies!
So, in a way to defeat this impossible enemy (namely, a top 5 list), I've just decided to list 5 of my "Default" movies - movies I love to bits that I can watch no matter what mood I'm in
In no particular order:
Donnie Darko
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Phantom of the Opera
Forrest Gump
Spider-man
(There's LOADS more I could list, but I'm trying not to cheat)
If ever I'm in doubt what to watch, normally one of these will do the trick
ps. Cube - is it really that good?
I've never seen it, but I've seen it for sale a few times (saw it on its own for £6, or in a box set with all 3 Cube movies for £10)
Is it worth buying? (and is the sequel/prequel good enough too to justify buying the boxset?)
My favourite movies:

Score another for Darko...uuugh... lol.... sweet.
Cube is freaking awesome man. I'd buy it if you couldn't rent it. I got lucky and bought it about 5 years ago on VHS at a garage sale for a buck. Probably should have been on my top five. Thanks to Whimsicalinthebrainpan for bringing that one up.
I never saw the sequel though. Never heard anything good or bad about it, but that means next to nothing when it's a sequel to a low budget (Lionsgate?)film. Better to ask someone who knows about that.
Hey Whimisical... I got Pi. I'm going to watch it this weekend finally. (My weekends sometimes start on Sunday, lol) I knew there was good reason to start this thread. I'll let you know what I think....

All right, I've been thinking and here goes.
The Phantom of the Opera
Dark City
The Ninth Gate
Blazzing Saddles
The Labyrinth
Honorable mention to Donnie Darko and Boondock Saints. I've never seen The Cube but I have heard good things about it.
And has anyone else here seen a movie called Bent?

Of course, how could I forget Dark City?
Excellent film, one of my favourites
Here's another 5 to my list then (Since I feel the need to cheat)
Dark City
Garden State
Pieces of April
Return of the Jedi
The Truman Show

All good films. The only one I haven't seen is Pieces of April. Since it's on your list of favorites I assume you recomend it? OH! And I forgot to put Equilibrium in my honorable mentions list.
As to Dark City, awesome! I new other people had to like it too. And it's nice to see Rufus Sewel as the hero for a change. Don't get me wrong, he's great as the arrogant, asshole, evil guy but the man has range and it's good to see it.

What a tough choice i hate people asking me these questions because i got so many but i will give it a go;
1 V for Vendetta
2 Dark City
3 Italian Job - the original not the sucky re-make.
4 Cube, Cube 2 and Cube 3 - i know theres three there but oh well. I love how you never find out whos behind the "cube".
5 Shaun Of The Dead - Nich Frost and Simon Pegg are both just awsome.
Cant believe i forgot about Monty Pyhton and the Quest for the Holy Grail. i think that will have to be changed with Shaun of the Dead
