I saw the post for V for Vendetta in there and since I'd rank that in my top 5 movies of all time, I thought, why not start a top 5 movie thread. It's probably been done before, countless times, so if it has feel free to ignore this post. No haters allowed.

Here we go...

1) Equilibrium - Anyone who knows me here, probably know's why.

2) Donnie Darko - Thought I got it the first time around. Every time I watch it, I just have more questions. I think Donnie is my movie-land counterpart. I can't imagine I've ever associated myself with a movie character more than Donnie. Plus that version of "Mad World" by Jules is one of the best songs ever performed, IMO.

3) eXistenZ - I'm pretty sure that I got this one down now. This one is a hell of a ride. I recommend partaking in your drug of choice while watching this one. Don't do drugs kids, and stay in school.

4) V for Vendetta - Yeah, if you know me, this doesn't suprise you either.

5) Mulholland Drive - All I gotta say is what the F man. I've never even pretended to get this one. I love watching it about once a year and fooling myself beforehand into thinking that this is the time that I'll actually figure it out. My best friend is confident that Lynch made this movie with the intent of creating an unsolvable riddle that will keep people like me guessing for the rest of their lives. Thanks for that Lynch. RIP my man. (Definately not for the kiddies, this one).

And, as a bonus, the movie that puts how really good I have things and gives me perspective when I start spending too much time in my own self pity pot...

I'll always entertain a Top Five/Ten/Hundred film thread. What's weird with me is that every time I make a list, the outcome is always different.

So here's mine (for the moment):

5) BRAZIL - Terry Gilliam actually made a movie about red tape. Great sci-fi. Imaginative as hell, and funny to boot.

4) EVIL DEAD 2 - Best horror film ever? Yeah. Funniest horror film ever? Definitely. Bruce Campbell + Sam Raimi = classic. (Happy birthday, Bruce!)

3) CHASING AMY - Kevin Smith's best film, also one of the few movies where I don't want to punch Ben Affleck. And that's saying something.

2) THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK - Best. Sci-fi. Ever.

1) TIE: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK / INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE - For my money, the most entertaining films anybody has ever made. Let's hope Spielberg makes Indy 4 at least half as good as Raiders and Last Crusade.

Nice list Orpheus. Enjoyed them all except for Brazil. I always meant to check that one out. I'm a big Monty Python fan, even though most of my friends just don't get the humor. I'll have to check it out now that you reminded me. My favorite Smith flick was the original Clerks, just because I'd never seen anything like it at the time and I was 20 years old with not a clue about what I wanted to do with life (not that I've figured any of that out yet either).

The top 5 movie thing must be played out in here. Thought there'd be more responses.

That's a very interesting list. I like your reasoning behind Mulholland Drive. So many people hate that film because they can't explain it. So what? Big deal. It's still enjoyable.

Yeah, I first saw Clerks when I was 15, where I was a poor high school kid in search of some kind of direction. Then I saw Clerks and BAM: Film school. I owe the last five years of my life to Clerks (as sad as that is), but then I'd have never found Clerks if not for Mallrats, which was the first of Kevin's films I'd ever seen. And just because why not, here's another top 5. Here's my top 6 - 10.

10) THE TASTE OF TEA - The latest addition to my list of favorites. It's a Japanese film about the life of a family that lives in the mountains outside of Tokyo. No real plot to speak of, just life. It's a very soothing watch.

9) GOLDENEYE - My very favorite Bond film, if only because of the way it reinvents the character in light of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The only one Pierce Brosnan was ever any good in, plus it introduced me to the gorgeous Famke Janssen.

8) FORGOTTEN SILVER - Peter Jackson's documentary about Colin McKenzie, New Zealand's long lost filmmaking pioneer. Even after Lord of the Rings and King Kong, Jackson hasn't made a film better than this.

7) BACK TO THE FUTURE - What can I say? I want a DeLorean. Genius setup, equally great follow-through. I, personally, think this one's aged very nicely.

6) SHAUN OF THE DEAD - I'd dare say this is a better zombie film than Dawn of the Dead. It's got a brilliant script, a good emotional center, and Simon Pegg/Nick Frost prove that they deserve to be world famous.

Bridge to Terrabithia

Jurassic Park

And while we’re on the topic of good movies, I really like the new Nancy Drew movie. I don’t know if it’s one of my all time favorites, but it’s definitely a good one. It’s refreshing to see a young heroine who can be independent, smart and passionate about her work, without being trendy, smutty or brazen.
