Like I said before, I think that Wes knows that some sacrifices aren't worth making. To illustrate that idea, look at the case of Fred and Illyria. Yes, they were trying to save her life, but if Wes were really as practical as you believe, he would have just killed her to prevent Illyria from being reborn. Sacrifices have to be made to save others, but if you can sacrifice the people you care about with barely a thought, you don't really belong on the hero list.

Wesley I always found to be a failure. From the very start to the very end. His inability to communicate to his colleagues often furthered a problem and placed the team in great danger. The height of his incompetence to my mind was his interpretation of the Connor/Angel dilemna. Rather than engage his team, who had on countless of occasions proven themselves, he felt it wiser to take the matter into his own hands. Destroying the harmony within the gang, and fracturing the very 'ethos' of what Angel had become.

I think Wesley would have sacrificed a Slayer or Slayers if it came to that.

Sheesh, this has turned into the Wesley-bashing thread. Not trying to be mean, but was he really that bad? But then, Angel was more my show than Buffy, so maybe I'm biased.

He,he. Yes it has somewhat hasn't it. Not intended. I used to watch Angel with two good friends and they both used to love Wesley, at least stubble Wesley. Me I found him funny when he was goofy, but thereafter when he was cool Wes he was a bleeding menace!

None saw it though... I just had to sit and role my eyes. He wasn't that bad but I couldn't understand why it was never brought up.

As for favourites, in truth I just can't pick one. I love them both as I watched them. Basically I can't have one without the other they're both so good.

I would never belong in the Wes bashing fan club, he is my favourite Joss character. But he doesn't fit into the "hero" category of the Joss-verse very well, brave and self-sacrificing though he may be.

As for your point about him killing Fred to prevent Illyria arising...he wasn't entirely sure what was happening there. As soon as he established Fred was really gone, what was the first thing he did, without hesitation? Swing the axe into Illyria's head. And killing Fred to save the world from Illyria - I can't quite remember, but did Illyria kill a single human? I don't think she did, and eventually did some good in the end. So I don't think you can equate Wes not killing Fred, and causing death by proxy, with for example, Angel locking the lawyers in with Darla and Dru - he didn't kill anyone either, just helped it along.
