Well the friends that I watch it with all agree that this season has been pretty terrible. They changed the format of one over arching mystery to two shorter ones with a period of stand alone episodes at the end of the season. In the middle of all this most of Veronica's high school friends have fallen off the charts. I actually laughed thinking about the theme song "a long time ago we used to be friends" cause yeah they don't really seem much like friends these days.
Other people aren't nearly as down on it as we are though. So, maybe it's just not my cup of tea. It might be fine for you. So, give it a shot at least.
Season 2 was pretty good IMO. So, at least you have that to go on.

At least there were two good seasons. Firefly never had the chance to suck (Not that it ever would have ;)

The producers decided to change the original season-long mystery format to 3 shorter mystery arcs to make it easier for new viewers to jump in, and also please the network. They did two of them like that, but the ratings didn't improve overall, so they decided to scrap the final arc, and do the remainder of the season as stand-alones. I admit I prefer the season-long mystery myself (even though it can be more than a bit contrived to have every year), but I still don't consider season 3 to be terrible--Zeek is just too damn critical over a lot of things I think (j/k) 
! The show may not be as compelling this way, but at least it's still got the sharp writing, the humor and the characters I've come to adore! I will take it in any form as long as those key elements remain. If that's what matters more to you in the long run, you won't be disappointed in season 3. If it helps your decision to purchase the season 3 dvd's in the future (despite Zeek's description I mean), a long-running character is shockingly killed off a little more than halfway through the season.
That said, don't forget to watch for little clues throughout Season 2 for the killer's identity. I really tried, and I was still stunned in the end. (Though most of that may have been denial)

I really really hate this network just as much as the WB.
Will only watch it again if it's the only way Joss gets another tv job.

I disagree with all of these claims.

sharp writing? Veronica becomes a teaching assistant of a course she's enrolled in. The logic train jumped the tracks a lot in season 3. This is just one simple example. Characters we adore? Wallace is as much a cameo character as backup these days. Humor? That's harder to show examples of, but it's not on par either IMO.
Anyway this isn't the point of the thread. I've still heard VM has a chance of a 4th season. So, we're not totally dead yet.

There's interviews on TV Guide.com's with Rob Thomas. It's been official since yesterday.
As sad as I am, I now have clarity. I will not be watching the CW anymore. For any reason.
I'm just so disgusted.

Zeek: very minor flaws in the overall scheme of things, in my opinion. There's no such thing as a show without some errors here and there, including Joss's...that doesn't mean the whole thing is crap, necessarily. Those things just don't bother me as much as they clearly bother you. Which is fine. You're entitled to your opinion as much as I'm entitled to mine. Also the characters I was referring to mainly were Veronica, Logan and Keith anyway. Others were unfortunately put on the backburner, and that was probably the biggest disappointment overall to me. But at least they were there. I would've been more than okay with the cast being cut for a fourth season, so that when they did show up again, it was important and more meaningful.
I'm glad that Rob Thomas did what he could to save the show, even if it meant making a few mistakes along the way. I'm also glad Joss was willing to lighten Mal up and create Niska to please FOX execs...even though darker Mal is much more interesting and Niska was more than a little over the top. Otherwise we wouldn't've gotten the show at all.

Jahzara: why it couldn't've been pushed to mid-season at least, I still don't understand. This is just SO wrong.
I have no interest in the CW's current or future shows other than VM. I'm two years behind on GG anyway so I'd rather just catch the reruns on ABCFamily. The ONLY exception would be if Joss is somehow involved with the CW.

read this after I posted this morning...apparently, although VM is dead, the FBI version (to be renamed if picked up) is not officially dead yet. Michael Auseillo said that the head of the CW told him that June 15 is the deadline for that decision, although it doesn't look likely to happen. Apparently it's because that's when Kristen Bell officially moves on to other things.
