Don't you wish you could support a presidential candidate who would stand up on Capitol Hill and say the federal government wastes too much money, taxes are too high, war should be a last resort, and the freedoms Americans have died for through the centuries ought to be protected? If you vote for Ron Paul in the 2008 Republican presidential primaries, you can. Consider these Ron Paul quotes from the floor of the House of Representatives:

Ron Paul on Big Government

Mr. Speaker, I once again find myself compelled to vote against the annual budget resolution for a very simple reason: it makes government bigger. 3/25/04

The large majority of Americans are sick and tired of being overtaxed and despise the income tax and the inheritance tax. The majority of Americans know government programs fail to achieve their goals and waste huge sums of money. 1/31/00

Under the United States Constitution, the federal government has no authority to hold states "accountable" for their education performance. In the free society envisioned by the founders, schools are held accountable to parents, not federal bureaucrats. 5/23/01

However, despite the long-term damage to the economy inflicted by the government’s interference in the housing market, the government’s policies of diverting capital to other uses creates a short-term boom in housing. Like all artificially-created bubbles, the boom in housing prices cannot last forever. When housing prices fall, homeowners will experience difficulty as their equity is wiped out. Furthermore, the holders of the mortgage debt will also have a loss. These losses will be greater than they would have otherwise been had government policy not actively encouraged over-investment in housing. 7/16/02

Failure of government programs prompts more determined efforts, while the loss of liberty is ignored or rationalized away. Whether it’s the war against poverty, drugs, terrorism, or the current Hitler of the day, an appeal to patriotism is used to convince the people that a little sacrifice of liberty, here and there, is a small price to pay. The results, though, are frightening and will soon become even more so. 12/9/03

Since it’s proven that centralized control over education and medicine has done nothing to improve them, and instead of reassessing these programs, more money is thrown into the same centralized planning, this is much closer to Emerson’s foolish consistency than defending liberty and private property in a consistent and forceful manner while strictly obeying the Constitution. 2/11/04

We need to understand that the more government spends, the more freedom is lost. Instead of simply debating spending levels, we ought to be debating whether the departments, agencies, and programs funded by the budget should exist at all. 3/25/04

One thing is clear: The Founding Fathers never intended a nation where citizens pay nearly half of everything they earn to government. 7/17/01

Ron Paul on Civil Liberties

No matter how well intentioned, an authoritarian government always abuses its powers. 1/31/00

The requirement that law enforcement officials obtain a warrant from a judge before searching private documents is one of the fundamental protections against abuse of the government's power to seize an individual's private documents. 3/15/01

By now it should be clear to every member of Congress that the American people do not want their health information recorded on a database, and they do not wish to be assigned a unique health identifier. 3/15/01

However, monitoring the transactions of every American in order to catch those few who are involved in some sort of illegal activity turns one of the great bulwarks of our liberty, the presumption of innocence, on its head. The federal government has no right to treat all Americans as criminals by spying on their relationship with their doctors, employers, or bankers. In fact, criminal law enforcement is reserved to the state and local governments by the Constitution's Tenth Amendment. 5/22/01

Ron Paul-9/25/01-

Quote:

If we can't or won't define the enemy, the cost to fight such a war will be endless. How many American troops are we prepared to lose? How much money are we prepared to spend? How many innocent civilians, in our nation and others, are we willing to see killed? How many American civilians will we jeopardize? How much of our civil liberties are we prepared to give up?

what i appreciate most about congressman Paul is his sincerity, and his consistant constitutional stance. the quote above seems quite wise in hindsight, as do many of his other Iraq war quotes.. one wonders what might have been had we listened to the constitutional view from the get-go. the majority of the republican party still clings to their irrational, emotional responses to 9/11, and the belief that cave dwelling hijackers attacked us because they "hate us for our freedoms", so in turn we need to overthrow Muslim regimes and police Americans to solve the problem. unfortunately, as Ron Paul says, terrorism is a tactic.. something futile to wage a "war" against. if only republicans would consider that maybe our foreign policy lies at the root of M.E. terrorism

VOTE TO STOP RNC FROM KICKING CONGRESSMAN RON PAUL OUT OF REPUBLICAN PARTY PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES

Now the Michigan chapter of the Republican party wants to kick Ron Paul out of the debates altogether, despite the fact that he won both debates, crushed his nearest rivals in the polls and is clearly the frontrunner for the candidacy.

This is akin to an analogy where the Mafia owns nine of the ten horses in a race. The only horse that isn't owned by them is the frontrunner and is a full length ahead. Now the mob boss simply wants to rig the race by shooting that horse dead in broad daylight.

Rudy Ghouliani's father was an enforcer (hitman?) in the Mafia, jailed in Sing Sing for armed robbery...

Quote:

"Mr. Speaker, my subject today is whether America is a police state. If we are, what are we going to do about it? Most police states, surprisingly, come about through the democratic process with majority support. The masses are easily led to believe that security and liberty are mutually exclusive, and demand for security far exceeds that for liberty. Our government already keeps close tabs on just about everything we do and requires official permission for nearly all of our activities. One might take a look at our Capitol for any evidence of a police state. We see: barricades, metal detectors, police, military soldiers at times, dogs, ID badges required for every move, vehicles checked at airports and throughout the Capitol. The people are totally disarmed, except for the police and the criminals. But worse yet, surveillance cameras in Washington are everywhere to ensure our safety. Like gun control, people control hurts law-abiding citizens much more than the law-breakers. Centralized control and regulations are required in a police state. Not only do we need a license to drive, but we also need special belts, bags, buzzers, seats and environmentally dictated speed limits. Or a policeman will be pulling us over to levy a fine, and he will be toting a gun for sure. Let's reject the police state."
—Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, MD (R-TX, 1988 Libertarian Party candidate for President), speech in House of Representatives, United States Congress, "Are We Doomed To Be a Police State?" June 27, 2002

"Mayor Giuliani — a former federal prosecutor who won notice for 'pursuing' the Mafia — had relatives linked to organized crime, including a mobbed-up cousin who was gunned down by FBI agents in 1977, a new book says. Lewis D'Avanzo, a son of the mayor's uncle and a guest at Giuliani's first wedding in 1968, was a 'ruthless and widely feared mob associate' who headed a massive stolen car ring, according to FBI documents and interviews detailed in Rudy! An Investigative Biography of Rudolph Giuliani, by Village Voice senior editor Wayne Barrett. Due in stores next week, the book sketches a largely unflattering portrait of the clan, depicting his father, Harold, as a hothead and the "muscle" behind a brother-in-law's loansharking operation, run out of a Brooklyn bar. Along with cracking heads, it says the mayor's father served time in state prison for a stickup, rarely held an on-the-books job and once was a gunman in a mob shootout in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. According to the book, Giuliani's cousin Lewis D'Avanzo was known as "Steve the Blond" and listed as armed and dangerous in FBI bulletins. His criminal record included a 10-year federal sentence for the armed hijacking of a truck loaded with $240,000 worth of mercury. The book alleges that he was suspected of taking part in several murders. D'Avanzo was gunned down by the FBI in October 1977, when he tried to run down an agent after being stopped on a warrant that accused him and two associates of transporting 100 stolen luxury cars. Quoting an unnamed friend of D'Avanzo, the book describes a 1962 shootout pitting a local mobster against the mayor's fat

Wow. I'm fairly well impressed; while I'm in trifle disagreement on his taxation/government stances (and only because I'll guess that he'd eliminate much of what I'd tend to keep (except perhaps military given his other positions); while I'd tend to eliminate that which he'd keep (and I could be wrong), I'm fairly much in concurrance with him. That's bad news for him; it is inconceivable to me that any republican I might actually vote for would win nomination... but I must say, I'm sorely tempted to shift party affiliation so I could... must ponder.

Edit to add:
Some additional reading material for the curious.

I think the key is for all like minded people, especially democrats, to vote in the republican primary. If you have open primaries in your state, just vote in the Republican one. If you have to, register as a Republican (keep in mind that doesn't bind you to any specific vote in the election) and vote for Paul.

Even at best, Dr. Paul is a long-shot for the Republican nomination. But it's still worth supporting him for the discussions and issues he's raising. The more support he has, and the longer he stays in the race, the less likely these important topics will be dropped.

Good point; it's a heck of a great change to have someone discuss the freaking issues rather than just make sound bites. And from what I've seen so far we can do worse than have him win.

yeah i agree.. theres no democrat as pro-constitutional as Ron Paul.

republicans seriously need to consider what their pro-war position will do to them next year. i think we can accept that the democrats gained control of congress almost solely on their opposition to the war, so considering the other 9 republican candidates support the current policy, they need Ron Paul to represent the conservative anti-war message.. if for nothing else then to regain power from the democrats. i would think that theyd rather have a republican than a democrat, especially on social issues.. but apparently hawkish foreign policy is the top priority for the party

i completely agree.. having such a prominant voice finally lends credibility to our arguments about a global government agenda, which Ron Paul himself admits. optimistically, now subjects like the inflation tax/IRS/federal reserve, N. American Union, and the many civil liberty infringements wont just go away after Ron Paul is eliminated, since people have begun to wake up finally about whats been happening
