Does anyone read or watch The Dresden Files?

I wonder if they'll have Harry become a Warden eventually. There's so much ground to cover, only time will tell how they plan to do things. Not to mention the fact that Sci-Fi might get trigger happy and cancel the series.

I had sort of the same questions after the first few episodes but I can see they're building into a real story arc that will continue into the next season/seasons (I hope). The books are great but maybe they have a reason besides trying to appease focus groups for the changes. I miss the narration and insights of Harry would give the reader about magic and the world he walks. Plus living in Chicago I can walk some of the same streets.

Why they changed the Blue Beetle into a Jeep, a hockey stick and a drumstick instead of his wand and blasting rods, or a storefront space instead of his office I can't figure either. Plus he wasn't supposed to be very good with women or around electronics but maybe that will change. I'm thinking they will have his powers grow in the coming shows and needed him to start off at a lower level.

I hate when they change a story because they think we won't get it. I mean the books were best sellers for a reason. They're always dumbing down SciFi.

I like the shows and love the books so I hope they don't screw it up.

Actually in the last or maybe it was the next to last episode there was a cat lying on a table in Harry's apartment. So maybe they start building up the background characters.

They did have one episode in the middle of the season titled “Storm Front”, which was a much abbreviated version of the first book. That episode did have the VW Beetle ( it was in the shop being repaired) & Mister was mentioned briefly, I don’t remember if they actually showed him or not. Also, Harry’s lab was in the basement under the trap door as in the books & Susan was introduced as his girlfriend. Maybe this was supposed to be the first episode? Anyone know for sure?

There are books? Wow I had no idea. I really enjoy the show, it just seemed so original. My son didn't like it at first but it grew on him. He was watching it with me until the season ended.

Hope I didn't jynx it.

Yeah, "Storm Front" was supposed to be the first episode, but the network decided to put "Birds of a Feather" first.

As I said, the actor's too tall for the Beetle. The hockey stick and drumstick are because he has to carry these things around in public, and he doesn't want people asking questions.

Chicago isn't Sunnydale, where teenagers can stroll around at night carrying wooden stakes and bladed weapons in full view.

Hey! I forgot I saw a cat in one ep. I remember thinking that sure wasn't big enough to be Mister. They need a large Maine Coon, or they could borrow my monster!

I'd love to get one of these network executives in a room and have a 'talk'. There's so many shows that type of decision has screwed up the start of a series...huhmm...again that's when they think people are too stupid to get it. Why do they put a show like Battlestar Gallatica on and give it everything it needs to really take off and then hamstring other shows from the start? Argh How do these execs get there jobs in the first place?

In the books Harry's like 6'3" or taller so I think the Jeep is just temporary and the Blue Beetle will emerge in later shows. I think someone else mentioned seeing Harry working on it. I'd forgotten about that scene. They're starting him off less powerful and the stories are a lot simpler than I expected which I guess has a purpose but I have my doubts about corporate execs and their influence over storylines. (keeping fingers crossed though)

Well I've seen some pretty strange things living in Chicago. In certain neighborhoods you'd be surprised if you didn't see people with weapons. Ya gotta fit in. :) The leather duster would fit right in around here. Everybody's bundled up from Oct til June anyway.

Actually, if memory serves, Harry is more like 6'6". In one of the books, he mentions a woman being 5'6", and says he's approximately a foot taller than her (yeah, I know I'm anal rententive, these things just bug me

).
