Does anyone read or watch The Dresden Files?

I like the show, but always manage to forget it is on. I will have to get the books!

I read the books. I have the first seven and read the eighth. I had some problems with the TV show because they changed so much from the book for no reason I can think of. I always have a bit of a problem when shows do that. I understand that they changed Murphy's first name from the one in the book because there was an actual Karrin Murphy in the Chicago police department. That doesn't bother me. Why she's suddenly a 5'8" brunette instead of a 5' or 5'1" blonde I don't know. Why did they make Bob the ghost of a wizard instead of a spirit of intellect that happened to be inhabiting a skull? Why did they make werewolves able to infect people with a bite when a whole book was about werewolves and how the infection thing was just a myth? Why is Morgan a young black man instead of an older white man? And most importantly why doesn't Harry Dresden walk around in his duster jacket all the time like he's frickin supposed to? The episodes I saw were entertaining enough, but really the show seems to be related to the books only in setting, character names, and basic premise.

Followed the show religiously, enjoyed just about every episode. Not two days ago I placed an order with the Science Fiction Book Club for three hardcover books which contain the first seven volumes. Not a bad deal at just under $40. Very interested to see the differences, I usually go from books to TV/movie version not the other way around.

I never read the books, but tried to get into the show. I found it to be mundane and boring. I came back for about 5 weeks, but never enjoyed it and finally gave up on it.
Quality is in the eye of the beholder.

I enjoyed the show very much. I keep meaning to go to the bookstore and pick up the first one at least. It seemed to have pretty good ratings, so Sci-Fi should bring it back.

Well, I just finished the sixth book, and I'm going into withdrawal again. Must get last three books.
Based on what I've heard about the series, they've made some changes I'm not sure I'll like. And I'm wondering, is Thomas in the series yet? And do they include Mister? Being that those are my two favorite characters, that will probably be the deciding factor of whether I like the show.

Sorry, DeepGirl no Thomas as of yet. No Mister either. Give it a shot though. If you can enjoy a book made into a movie ( they never follow exactly), then you can enjoy this.

Actually PirateCat....The Unit is a military-oriented drama from CBS staring Dennis Haysbert (President David Palmer from 24) and Robert Patrick (T-1000 from Terminator 2 and Special Agent John Doggett from The X-Files).
Special Unit 2 was the show about an elite branch of the Chicago PD charged with busting supernatural baddies. And it had a troll it in

someone else brought up the unit/ SU2 out. I've really enjoyed the show will get to the books, eventually. Ididn't see anyone bring up the books on tape. Guess who's reading? James Marsters. He brought it up at the Grand Slam convention I went to. He loved the book so he jumped at the chance to do the on tape thing.

I LOVE The Dresden BOOKS. I first got into the books when I learned that James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) read the audio versions. I never did get the audio versions but it did spark enough interest for me to start reading them a couple years ago. The books are very well written and laugh out loud funny. Harry's character in the book is very sarcastic and pragmatic to a fault. I have loved every book thus far in the series and eagerly anticipate each next installment. The books keep getting better, unlike other series that subtract plot to add other gratuitous elements (*cough*Laurell K Hamilton*cough*).
The tv series is okay. I have to admit my expectations were a bit high when I heard about the series being produced, which weren't met. There were just too many things that were changed and not just trivialities such as physical characteristics of characters. There were major changes to even the mythology. Such as Harry being able to be around electricity and the doors to his office/apartment being normal doors with glass. (The last part may seem trivial to some who have not read the books, but I assure you the doors being very heavy, thick, and extremely warded has saved Harry's ass a number of times.)
Anyway's I did like to series enough to catch it when I could but I definitely take it as an "alternate Harry" and would definitely choose the books over it any day.
