In a conference call with today, the Speaker went further, telling RAW STORY that 'President Bush was not worth it,' because impeachment proceedings would be a distraction from passing Democratic policies that would ensure the party's future political victory. But he added, 'It is very important that we start with Mr. Cheney because if we were to start with the President, Mr. Cheney would then become president. He also noted, 'We'd have to go through the constitutional agony of impeaching two presidents consecutively.'"

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A House committee Wednesday subpoenaed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to find out what she knew about the 2003 claim that Iraq sought uranium from the African country of Niger.

The uranium claim, which President Bush made in his 2003 State of the Union address, was a key element in the administration's case for the invasion of Iraq.

This impeachment thing is starting to sound like Watergate, where dozens of White House employees went to prison. It started with the indictment and conviction of VP Judge Spiro Agnew by a STATE attorney general, no impeachment required... His crime? Extorting bribes.

Funny that Wikipedia censors Agnew from its Watergate page, when Agnew was VP during the crimespree.

Well it seems the house of cards is beginning to wobble - I dunno about y'all, but I am concerned, cause you know, cornered rats bite.

I also worry that we might run up against a situation where you find em guilty, and they laugh in your face cause there's insufficient provision for handling the executive branch should they defy such a thing, as mentioned in the original Historical Trivia thread.

And an extra special dopeslap for Kooky, for being *politically* STUPID in this process, he could have pulled a lot more support from the conservative end of the spectrum and put Cheney on shakier ground if he had the sense to have kept his mouth SHUT about gun control for a week, cause now he's lost the support of the conservative NRA types, who would have originally supported him against Cheney.

Regardless of actual political stance, and barring any moral judgements whatsoever, it was a politically stupid thing to alienate a substantive chunk of the people you need to support a thing like this just before doing it.

So we'll see, but in the mean I can comfort myself with the thought that as long as they're kicking each others asses, they're not busy screwing us.

I also gotta wonder about Article III of the impeachment bill. "...threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran..."? Everyone in Europe, except the folks selling the nuclear technology, are blustering about Iran's nuclear technology. Big deal. Seems like it just draws attention and possible support from the first two articles, where the real meat for the impeachment-minded resides.

Geeze, as I understand it, the Constitution, concerning the power of Treaties, makes them also equal to itself in authority once they've been signed by all parties.

One of them specifically forbids making willful threats of the nature Cheney did, by those with the real ability and authority to carry out such threats.

Basically it puts disregarding Treaty Obligations on the same plane as a Constitutional Violation, which amounts to all manner of trouble for the Executive Branch, not the very least of which is Cheney's smack talk.

I don't have the documentation handy as I am on break here at work, but there you have it..

The Uranium claim was accurate, and the Dems know that. This, like the charges against Cheney are about as childish, petty and worthless as if they were written on Sheryl Crow's single sheet of toilet paper.

Condi won't even dignifly this kangaroo court by appearing before any House committe and Cheney's 'impeachment' won't go anywhere beyond the crack pot Lib's wildest fantasies.
