There are lots of great writers here, but (for me), the ones what really stand out are Leiasky, Tamsibling, Mal4prez, Screwthealliance, 2x2, Wanmei, and Leighkohl. There are others, but I'll probably end up mispelling them, so I leave to others to list.
Having fun yet?

And let them Tear me APART,
But that's not the way they do it here...

I just finished reading Mal4Prez's "The Fish Job". It was exciting and funny. Hooboy, was it good! And don't worry, it's not *really* about fish. ;)
One of my all-time favorites is Kaynara's Bed and Wine/Bedlam series. It's really long, but oh, so good!

Thanks EmpireX! Not all about fish, huh? Next time, I'll put in more fishiness. ;)
Many excellent recs above, I agree!
Sadly absent is Guildsister's Truthsome and the Blue Sun Job. She's an excellent writer, and obviously put a lot of work into constructing and presenting her plot. It's a detailed back story for Mal and Zoe, thought provoking and entertaining stuff!

If you're after Rayne, then the 'Voices and Visions' series is nothing short of stunning.

If you're after something lighter to snicker at, look up the Dino Tales. I've been unable to make them novel length, though.

Let's not forget girlfan's "Even Roses Have Thorns". Definitely qualifies as novel length, and is getting quite dark in that yummy chocolaty way.

If you're looking for length, don't mind a crew which is almost entirely OCs, and can stomach a fairly weak start, you should look at my own opus, "Legacy". It's already more than 200,000 words in length, cut into easy, bite-sized pieces for easy consumption. Just start at 'Reaved' and go up the line. They get better as they go.

Oh, definitely Dino Tales. They're a good fun time!

Not from the Blue Sun Room, but Choices by Tzegha is very good.

Set between the series and the BDM I think, but it may be AU for the BDM.
As Mal4prez said, the stories by guildsister are pretty much a must (even if you disagree with the conclusions, they are still put forward in a very convincing manner. It may take you time to actually consider the possibility for a different backstory.), but I would say so are the two by mal4prez.

Add to that "That Old Yeh Shen Story" and "Lex Talionis" by TaraLJC in the BlueSun Room and I would consider those a very good start.

and if you got time, the stories by ScrewtheAlliance are also very well written - but be warned you may need to set aside a little time and read them as a proper book. i would estimate I take between 30 mins and an hour per chapter (sometimes longer). The first story has 28 chapters, the second around 90. A very entertaining read.

Then there is the brilliant Virtual Firefly. written by a talented team of writers, it is episodic in nature, it has all the episodes as a transcript so it feels very much like Firefly. As they say "here's how it might have been..."

Since I mentioned that, I must also mention the other episodic saga - Firefly TVS. It seems to be back from the dead with a whole new episode. Many people probably got scared by the first episode - it was brave. It showed that the writers would not be scared of doing the unthinkable. But it also probably put people on edge.

Tranquility by CaptainVimes is also turning out interesting. I hope the author continues with the story. Same with "The Losing Side" by jetflair.
/This was gonna be a short post, but it just took on a life of its own. I had to keep typing. Honest!
