I would recomend anything by LucasHarper, especialy the Sunshine Days stories.

I also really liked the new season of firefly written by GeekUSA.

IN THE OPOSITE DIRECTION,
I would most certainly NOT recomend anything written by myself. I have only written four paragraphs, mabey five out of an entire SERIES that I am proud of, and one of those isn't even the whole paragraph, just a line by simon in chapter 4.
but then again, what do you expect of a highshcool student posting stuff that he wrote over a year ago at an ungodly hour of the morning?

Me, I'd love to get some more reading done hereabouts - but it seems like no matter what the site is, there's a 75% chance of Rayne in the stories - and personally, I AM SICK TO DEATHLY TIRED OF THE RAYNE-STORM.

Not bashing any one author or story, not looking to start another brawl, but that's how I feel about it, and I really would like to know if there's some good non-Rayne fic out here in the black.

All 100% not Rayne except the saga by Kaynara (I got too far into it before it showed its fangs).

I hope you find some good reading out there.

Overall though I would say we are in a good period. Mal4prez is posting, so are Jetflair and STA. Virtual Firefly is also pretty active.

Everything seems to have kicked into gear after a quieter few months.

You're so not wrong! The LJ commumity ff_fanfic should change it's name to ff_malriver_fanfic. It seems like every damn story on there is about this pairing these days! Gah - including mine, in a way.

If I'd known of the M/R fic storm that was brewing, I might have chosen differently when I put my own tale together many moons ago. Thank the ptb you know I'm not serious about it Platonist!

/vent Sorry about the tirade. It just seems that these things come in waves - last winter was all about Simon/Kaylee. Now it's Mal/River. What's up with that??

Edit to add: nbz - the raggedy edge site is yours? Thanks for the rec! My beta pointed it out to me a while back, and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy LOL!

Heck, to me it seems like everything is Jayne River. Sheesh. Now that is a scary combo to me. (Everyone is entitled to their own but that one and the Mal River pairing both scare me). Sometimes I have to wonder if people saw the same show I did

Exactly!

Rayne I've suffered through only three times because the writing was excellent, Kaynara's "Bed and Wine", Lattelady's "Voices and Visions", and Nikiness' "Details of the War".

With Maliver the characterizations are portrayed to far from canon for me...Mal starts acting like an adolescent (probably the age of the writer- 16 or 17) and River is MarySued into a cross between Zoe and Inara. River becomes highly sexualized and always knows everything and her and Mal become the Bonnie and Clyde of the verse.

Silly, I know, let them have their fun!
