I too will be buying at least one of these (if not several, as I did with the series and the initial BDM DVD).

...But all this begs the question: Why is there going to be a sequel to The Fantastic Four, and yet no sequel to Serenity? W...T...F!

The fact that F4 is getting sequelized, while SereniFly moulders, is elegant proof that there must be a God...Because there sure as hell ain't no such thing as Evolution! People get stupider each and every year. The studios, the press, the moviegoing public...all dumber'n a bag o' hammers.

Very simple... because The Fantastic Four had good DVD sales. The Special Edition of Serenity is a very good step in the direction of getting Serenity II

Is it really that simple?

Serenity has been near the top of DVD sales since it was released. Furthermore, due to such good sales, its release on pay cable was delayed by nearly two months from its original schedule, and its airing on basic cable has been delayed by almost six months by (I presume) its success on HBO/Cinemax, etc.

Fantastic Four was a craptacular. But, I suspect its studio paid dearly for its rights and (again, presumably) a multi-movie deal for Jessica Alba.

...It's kinda like Donald Trump. The F4 movie is so over-capitalized the studio dare not pull the plug, for fear of collapsing the world economy.

Perhaps SereniFly's greatest weakness is that it's cheap enough to ignore. In the words of Thomas Paine, "What we obtain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly."

While F4, in my opinion, was kinda lame and Serenity was, let's face it, the best thing ever, F4 made over 150 million dollars in the U.S and...well...Serenity didn't. That's why it is getting a sequel.

I have nothing against other movies having sequels, but when I see Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, Goal! 2: Living the Dream..., Walking Tall 2, Highlander: Vengeance, The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning, Decoys 2: Alien Seduction, The Hills Have Eyes II, Mr. Bean's Holiday, Recon 2022: The Mezzo Incident, Are We Done Yet?, Spider-Man 3, 28 Weeks Later..., Shrek the Third, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, BloodRayne II: Deliverance, Hostel: Part II, Ocean's Thirteen, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Judges 2, Live Free or Die Hard, The Bourne Ultimatum, Rush Hour 3, High School Musical 2: Sing It All or Nothing!, Resident Evil: Extinction, Highlander: The Source, Saw IV, The Punisher 2, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, An untitled Friday the 13th Sequel, November Son, Species IV, The Book of Mormon Movie, Volume II: Zarahemla, Old School Dos, Raptor Island 2: Raptor Planet, Bats: Human Harvest, Return to Sleepaway Camp, Johnson Family Vacation 2, Pretty Cool 2, Mortal Kombat: Devastation, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles", and Walking Tall 3 coming out (or having come out) this year and, John Rambo, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The fourth installment of the Indiana Jones Adventures, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Angels & Demons, Harold & Kumar 2, Deathrace 3000, Terminator 4, The Brazilian Job, Sin City 2, Boogeyman 2, Jurassic Park IV, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, Sin City 3, House of Re-Animator, Super Troopers 2, Ju-on: The Grudge 3, Kung Pow 2: Tongue of Fury, Alone in the Dark II and Shrek 4 being planed I get pissed off that we don't have one.

But Gor did make a valid point: F4 raked in $150 million. Even though I find it very hard to believe, considering that the word of mouth was absolutely horrendous and it was out of theaters in my pop. 300,000 burg within a month.

Isn't accounting wonderful? Still, a 150 mill credit is nothing to sneeze at, even if it took several 'educated pencils' to get there. I wonder how much it cost to produce (couldn't have been much more than Serenity's $50M, from the looks of its production and SFX quality), and to advertise (okay, they got the full-court press, complete with fast food and breakfast cereal tie-ins). Does anybody have a (undoubtedly fudged) cost breakdown for F4?

I'm just having a very hard time wrapping my head around F4 being profitable, let alone getting a sequel, based on the inescapable fact that the movie I saw (once it was released on pay cable) was a total turd, and a waste of two hours of my life.

I think the producers of F4 owe me $50 for my time...
