Anyone else see 300?

I just saw it tonight and I have it say it was definitely pretty awesome.

I have to agree with everything you said that disappointed you, Singate. The Persian gold on that traitor was really stupid.

But as for whoever said that the action sequences were so fast that it was hard to keep track is an idiot (I know you didn't say it, you read it). The action sequences were very well filmed and I can remember some awesome parts, like when the King is leading the 300 into battle, and he's killing quite a few soldiers, the motions that he takes to move forward is just awesome.

The only movie that I can remember was hard to see when it came to combat (or pretty much anything at all) was The Bourne Supremecy, I love shakey cam, but they WAAAAAY over did it throughout that ENTIRE movie; I couldn't see anything!

Saw it and loved it! I just knew I was going to like this film from the moment I first saw a trailer, but I was blown away by the movie.

The dark backgrounds and sky were in keeping with Miller's comic. This coupled with the almost insubstantial backdrops keep you focused on the characters and the story. The story of the 300 and the legendary significance of their sacrifice and what it means to modern day freedom and democracy are important themes I hope are not lost on those who see the movie.

Excellent film! Going to see it again this weekend with friends. Can't wait to buy the dvd.

I saw it opening day (wanted to see it midnight showing, but oh well) and I just loved it! It is very much a big screen action movie, but the story behind it just so compelling. I'm actually glad they based it on the graphic novel. I don't know if it would have worked as well based on the actual story. The movie was so beautiful to watch, the shots were just amazing! I'm not gonna give anything away, but I enjoyed some of the parallels they had in the movie. I just loved how much courage can be shown, so few against so many. Such a good movie! I'm going to have to see it again.

I saw it last Wednesday and, being a fan of the comic for years, loved it!
When I heard, some years back, that there'd be a Sin City movie, I was annoyed that they weren't making a '300' movie, first...perhaps that's for the best, coz' this film is great!
My friends, who usually heckle and give annoying comments loudly while watching, were quite quiet...a sure sign that the movie was quite enjoyable.
I'm watching it again. Hmmm, who to drag...

I was pretty much completely against seeing the movie and my boyfriend nearly dragged me there and how right he was(it pains me to say that ) The movie was so good the fight scenes were awesome and the guys abs and seeing it at the IMAX didnt hurt either

You know, I have to say that with 300, it represents a bigger leap forward in digital filmmaking than previous attempts. Like with SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW (and to a lesser degree SIN CITY and the Star Wars prequels), when it's perfectly obvious that they're acting in front of a green or blue screen and that everything around them is computer generated, it kinda takes you out of enjoying the picture when you realize that everything around them is fake.

But with 300, I read that the only thing that was shot on location was the horses riding into Sparta near the beginning of the movie. Everything else was CG. But with that in mind, I didn't notice. When I was watching this highly stylized movie, I didn't think about the CG world and all the sfx that went into it. I was totally immersed in the action and story. It just never occurred to me that everything I was seeing was mostly CG.

So I think that with that in mind (as well as the fact that something that should have cost hundreds of millions of dollars was only made for like $65 mil), I think it's gotten to the point where CG tech like this wont get in the way of old fashioned storytelling filmmaking.

Hi 'roadie,

Now that is a fanfic I want to see. I love enthusiastic and oblivious Dwight.

My hubs and I really enjoyed the 300 for what it is, a comic come to life. I think Herodotus would have liked it too, history at the time being more story telling and than scholarship.

As for those of you commenting on the similarity of the costumes for Xerxes and Ra (as he is listed on IMDB) I'm sure both costume designers were going for that "god-king/over the top/lots of gold" look and both had lovely, exotic men to work with. I will admit I had the same reaction when I saw Xerxes for the first time. "Oh look, it's Jaye Davidson's much taller brother."

Eh.. I wanted to see this at first, but I'm... hesitant.

The thing is, I'm very much into Classics, Roman and Greek things. I'm starting to think about college decisions, and I'm most likely double majoring, with Classical studies being one major.

So, I know I'll overanalyze the whole thing and end up hating it. Plus, my Latin teacher's husband (who's a teacher too, and working on getting a doctorate, I believe, in Classics) hated it. So.. yeah.

I'll stick with the old, classic (but really cheesy) movie based on this historical event, The 300 Spartans.
