Anyone else see 300?

I found it to be quite entertaining. For those who don't know it's based on Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name. (Note: the events of the story are based on a historical battle though Miller took some artistic license with the fantasy elements). The film features some of the best visuals I have seen in years. The fight scenes are beautifully done, with large doses of slow motion sequences. I've read some complaints that it was overdone but as others have pointed out it is often difficult to see everything that happens in a very fast action sequence.

This is mainly an action movie. Anyone who goes looking for a deep, thought provoking film with great dialogue and character development will be disappointed. There is a subplot involving political machinations which is probably fleshed out more in the printed version but on screen it seemed only to bridge the space between battles.

I only have two gripes with the film. First, the Persian king was an almost identical copy of Apophos(sp?) from SG1. Second, there is a traitor who just happens to be carrying the gold he was bribed with at a very convenient time.

I would definitely recommend this to people looking for some brain candy. And for the ladies there is plenty of eye candy...most of the Spartans are in amazing physical shape while sporting little more than loincloths and capes.

It is for that very reason a lady friend of mine has demanded I take her see this movie when it comes out here. I will of course be happy to as it looks like a pretty good action film. I loved Sin City which was based on Miller's work, so hopefully I'll enjoy this too... And not be covered in drool from the girl next to me.

Sitting though the trailer was almost too much...

Good stuff. Gory, as expected, but I enjoyed it. Had sort of a LOTR feel to it, only darker.

Oh, plus, here's the original from the graphic novel:

I doubt very much that Frank Miller ripped off Stargate--not to be overly disparaging, but he doesn't seem to need to go to such *ahem* pedestrian sources for inspiration.

Oh, also: the political intrigue thing isn't even in the graphic novel. You should check it out, though: great stuff.

Saw it. Loved it. THing that surprised me the most was the David Wenham (aka. the Friar from VAN HELSING) got to kick some serious ass as well as lead that 40,000 plus army at the very end.

I'm thinking of writing an OFFICE fanfic of Dwight's anticipation for the movie and how he sees the movie as slightly biographical. I'm thinking of having him drag Angela to the movie and how she becomes both repulsed and compelled at what she's seeing. And also have a funny aside of Dwight seeing Oscar and Gil there and be completely oblivious as to why they're there.

Just saw this tonight. Definitely WASN'T disappointed. It was incredible. Even though it was a bloody action movie, it was kind of beautiful to watch, in a way. And Gerard Butler's abs weren't too bad, either.

I haven't seen the movie, but I do have the graphic novel. I like Frank's art.

I didn't mean to imply he would have the need to ripoff anyone. It's just the first thing that popped into my head when Xerces appeared on screen. His speech reinforced the idea even further. Also, after that envoy bribed the politican didn't his eyes glow?

Edit: did anyone else see that sweet Spiderman 3 trailer? Coupled with the 7 minute clip at NBC.com Monday this movie is looking fantastic.
