Oh hell, I own “Ice Princess” on DVD. And I’ve watched its little cousin “Go Figure” on the Disney Channel.
If gayness is measured by your movie selection, I must be flaming like a British 80s popstar.
All that being said, “Ice Princess” really wasn’t as bad as it might sound. I don’t remember that much about it, but it did seem to keep my interest, although I remembering thinking that it was pretty after-school-special-esque. Typical Disney kind of stuff, but all in all Disney does some good stuff. In my opinion, average Disney is really far above the average for the industry as a whole.
Trachtenberg has never been one of my favorite actresses, though. She sort of stunk in Buffy, although I may have been projecting the ridiculousness of the whole magically appearing sister. In her recent movies she has shown considerable improvement, and she was convincing in "Ice Princess," I thought.
Although I thought she was great in “Harriet the Spy,” but she had the whole cute and precocious little kid factor going for her.
If she continues to improve she’ll go far, especially considering that her major competition is Hillary Duff and Lindsay Lohan, neither one of which can hold a candle to her right now.

Ok, but how do you REALLY feel ?

I'm on board w/ the whole anti-Dawn crowd. I get it. But we can't blame Michelle for something Joss & Co. had planned on doing. If not her, then someone else would have received the scorn of Buffy fans. 2 things stay my scorn of Dawn's character, and Michelle. 1st, everyone admits she was way to whiney when she made the scene. Joss had said they wanted an even YOUNGER character, but chose MT instead. Imagine how bad THAT would have been! So much of the ill feelings we have for Dawn was kinda built into the character. She was SUPPOSE to be that way! 2nd, MT showed a ton of maturity and self confidence on the S6 wrap up dvds. ( One panel has the whole panel , I forget which Con it was from, but I really enjoyed it )
Never saw 'Harriet - The Spy', but I'm glad some folks liked it. I want everyone from Joss's shows to go on and have great careers and lives, so I didn't mean to ramble on so w/ this thread.

I wonder what the corrolation is between people that hate Dawn and those that hate Connor.
Me personally, I liked Dawn, but Connor had to grow on me.

I have never been in the "I hate Dawn" club. I understood why some were annoyed by her (the typical bratty little sis), and I even agreed on occasion, but overall I did like and care about her a lot. As for Michelle, I've never thought of her as a bad actress.
Connor, on the other hand, is another story. I don't know if I could use the word "hate" for any character associated with Joss's shows, but he came damn near it. That changed, ironically, during his last episode as a series regular. The scene in the sports store where Connor rather pathetically says "You let him get me" really tore me up and I was FINALLY able to connect with the character after all the horrible things he did to everyone. I'm currently in denial that everything "worked out" in the end so that in the future, it can be revisited on the big screen someday.

I think the problem with Dawn had more to do with writing then anything else, because Trachtenberg did well in two movies straddling her work in Buffy. In many of the scenes Trachtenberg did well with what she had, and I suspect that Joss was looking for something on the order of Harriet from “Harriet, the Spy.” Adorable and precocious little girl that you can forgive for acting stupid, because she’s little, what Joss got was a Trachtenberg that was a little to far this side of puberty to make that work. If the writing had been adjusted to an older Dawn then I suspect it would have worked much better.
Trachtenberg’s performance in her later work like Ice Princess and Eurotrip was pretty good.
And I don’t know any Connor. Must be an Angel reference, but I never watched Angel.

So I guess that’s all we have to say on Trachtenberg; what about some of the other little starlets coming into their adult careers recently? Anyone have any opinion on those girls? They typically don’t play the kinds of movies that I look for, so I don’t know much them unless I happen to catch one of their movies on TV.
Hillary Duff
Personally, I don’t follow her career, but I know that she was popular for a while, though what I’ve seen of her doesn’t do much for me. I mention her only because her Lizzy McGuire stuff was popular with certain segments of my family.
Lindsay Lohan
I loved her in the Parent Trap remake, and in Mean Girls I thought she did some of the best acting of any young actress in a long time, though the movie itself didn’t appeal to me too much. She’s definitely talented; it seems to come natural to her. Unfortunately, she’s a lush and kind of dumb based on some of her interviews I’ve seen.
Hayden Panetierre
Of course, what she’s doing on Heroes is fabulous and that more then anything else endears her to me, but much of her earlier work was pretty good too, though she mostly had secondary roles from what I’ve seen. She is a fairly convincing actress, and what I've seen she does mostly dramatic roles. Also she is gorgeous in that way very few people are. Like Thora Birch, she has one of those classical angelic faces. But she’s still really young. She turned 18 recently I think. I was hearing some rumors from some of the girls who tend follow this stuff more closely that she’s falling in with the Hilton crowd and on her way to becoming a lush like Lohan. I don’t know if that’s true, but I’ll be pissed if she gets all drunk and stupid and ruins Heroes.
Amanda Bynes
Amanda Bynes is a natural like Lohan. She can do comedy with almost perfection, which is not something many of these starlets can do. This makes Bynes very underrated, in my opinion, even if her eyes do seem to be a little small for her head. But a lot of comedians have a goofy look about them, so it seems to work for her. Many young actresses do a large degree of slapstick humor, but there is a real big difference between the stumbling about Hannah Montana stuff and real comedy. There really aren’t many actresses with that kind of talent at such a young age.
I’m sure there are others, but that’s all I come to mind right now.

The whole Connor thing really kinda annoyed me, but I never could pin down exactly why. One thing though, he always reminded me of a young Carl Sagan, and that's just one guy who I never saw as a 'bad ass'. Smart ? Yep. Able to rip heads off and slay monsters ? Naww.

Could be just a 'me' thing.

I have no opinion on any of the other girls, except that I hope they see ANS as a SERIOUS wake-up call.

Wow, where'd that come from? * blink * Why not bring up Britney Spears while you're at it. Some might not have heard of Anna Nicole Smith.
