Ok, it's just the DVD, and not the actual ship; however the details are interesting. The best write up is here:

In short, a Browncoat has offered some DVD's to be taken up on STS 117, which is due to launch in the middle of march, to the space station. In all likely hood the movie will then be in the "permanant" movie collection up there. Most movies get streamed up to the station, thus are only available for a limited time. This will allow the crew to watch the best darn'ed movie released in a long time at their discression! (edit: also the Firefly series got to make the trip as well.)

---Edit:
As CLJOHNSTON108 posted below, it is both Serenity and Firefly Box set going up.

Maybe we should wait until they are actually up there before we start celebrating? Doesn't it cost several thousand dollars to send a pound into Low Earth Orbit by shuttle? (Or by any method for that matter). What if a pencil-pusher somewhere gets wind of this and raises a fuss? Maybe we should fly under the radar on this one.... Just a thought.

Sure does. At the same time, everyone going up has a certain alotment of "things". They have some discression as to what those "things" are. It is my understanding that someone has allowed their personal alottment to be used for this.

At the same time, it might be wise to wait to celebrate. For instance, if the person who has offered to carry them up is sick, his replacement might not be willing to "accept the task."

Hmmm, I thought it was the Firefly box set that was being taken up?

I can confirm that the crew member for STS-117 was given both the Firefly DVD Set and Serenity Movie DVD. the ISS crew has been informed and are looking forward to their arrival. We (the Nasa Browncoats) could have gotten the movie files uplink months ago, but it would have been just a temporary thing since the files are uplinked over older files. The crew member taking them up worked with me on STS-121 and that was when the offer was made that if I provided the DVD's he would be happy to take them up since he was a fan of the show/movie also. I got an email from him this past week that the cargo is packed and ready for liftoff in a few weeks (3/15). I will post photos as soon as I get them. I had emailed Haken this bit of news a while back and recently when I got confirmation of the cargo load. both the Signal and Firefly talk should be carrying it as a news reminder in the next episode.

photos from the mission will be added to this gallery:
