Finally ! Saw THE movie which started it all. BTVS

Just yesterday I watched the whole movie - start to finish , on DVD. I had seen bits and pieces of it before, but never all the way through. So I always turned the channel when I saw it on the tube.
OK, Here's what I KNOW. Joss wrote the movie. Said so, right in the opening credits. However, I'm told he didn't get to do it how HE wanted, or something. Was there a change during the filming of the movie ? Seems to me it was going along well until around mid-movie. Then it seemed to lose something.

Those who know the behind the scenes story on what the deal is w/ Joss, the movie and how it all differed from the series, I'd love to get the Cliff notes version from several folks. I know this has been done to death, so I'll humbly take any tid bits I can get. Thanks!

Joss wrote it, and that's the last of it for him. They directed it their way, goofing it up a bit more, and Donald Sutherland didn't even bother learning his dialogue; he made it up as he went (Like Brando in Superman- problem is, Sutherland ain't no Brando ).

Entertaining and all, but imagine what Joss could have done with it.

Director Fran Kuzui's take on the BUFFY movie: 'a pop-culture comedy about what people think about vampires.' This quote was in a biography about Joss.

Go on, say it: "HUH?!"

Nope, she didn't 'get' Joss either.

In the original script Joss wrote, the school gym is burned to the ground by buffy to kill the vampires. The script was extensively rewritten to play it more for laughs and this scene was axed. however, there are several allusions to torching the gym in the series as joss, uncompromising as he is, saw the series as a sequel to the screenplay, not the movie.
