Meanwhile...

Sherriff McCoy looks in on his latest victim.

"Bleeding to death rather slowly there, I might have to move that along, but first I must gather a few more supplies."

McCoy walks out of the small, dark room closing the door and securing it with several locks. He then slides the fake wall back into place and seals the outer door of the mysterious building with a bit of magic. The building itself appears to shimmer in the heat of the day and then becomes completely invisible.

"Dammit Jim! He's a Sherriff, not a Doctor!" Citizen mumbles rousing slightly. "Best not too fade away." He concludes slumping forward and dribbling into the horses ear.

The smell of alcohol hits LightMeDark like a semi truck. An empty stomach and a parched mouth go a long way towards making El feel sick at the thought of a drink. Never letting go of the open bottle in his hand, Paul drags himself along the ground and uses LMD's legs to pull himself to his unsteady feet.

"Elm-dee, boy, ha'yerself a drink," Paul says as he puts the half-empty bottle up to El's dry, cracked lips, "Don't struggle, son, good fer th' spirit, they says, and Ah reckin yeh could use it."

LMD fights to keep the bile from rising when Paul at last takes the now nearly empty bottle from his mouth.

"Good stuff, in'it. Only way t' keep a man sane in a place like this'un here. Got what she deserved at least, she did. Guess yeh could say she's layin' in th bed she made 'erself." Hysterical laughter escapes from Paul as he pulls out a long knife from the sheath that hangs from his belt. "Now, how'd yeh get here? How do I get outta this place? Tell me!"

The point of the knife held to within inches of El's left eye gives his mind something to latch onto as it struggles against the alcohol running through his veins. "What? I don't know! What is this place? I woke up in your field, that's all I remember."

"Ain't my field, 'n you know it, liar. Yer part o' Sally's little game. Been stuck here fer 16 damned years! I'm not gonna letcha fancy talk yer way outta tellin' me how t' get home, see my wife n kids. The truth!" Paul slashes the blade across LMD's chest, parting rope and flesh with cold indescrimination, "The truth now, or I swear I'll finish it!"

El looks down at his blood-covered hands holding the long, shallow wound closed. He hisses at the pain and says through clenched teeth, "I'm the same as you, trapped. That's the truth. Stop and think bef-"

"Liar! Tell me how t-" LMD raises his head in time to see something streak by from over his shoulder and strike the raving Paul between the eyes. Neither man has time to wonder what has happened as interrogator crashes down onto interrogated and the chair collapes under their combined weight.

El struggles out of his restraints and pushes Paul's limp body off of himself and to his side. As he stands, his gaze is drawn to the tip of the knife protruding from the dead man's back and the deformed banana lying next to the lifeless head.

After a few quiet moments, LMD turns away from the scene and walks out the double-doors of the shack and makes his way for the cottage to find some answers, and a bandage.

((i write so slowly...hope i don't miss out on the quest for mai, haha))

OOC: I promise to die really, really, slowly and painfully so you can write up your story and still have time to catch up.

ooc - well thank you for that Mai, thats er... very good of you...

Ic - Seryn continues to tickle and snuggle the baby, oblivious, until Soul starts yelling and Serenity looks bleak.

"Well, we're the crew of the SerenTree - does it make any difference - haven't half of us returned from the dead at somepoint? We need to find her though - did you get any clue as to where she was?"

Isn't sanity really a one trick pony, anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking! But when you're good and crazy...ooh hoo hoo hoo... the skys the limit!

Jade said something about a Sherrif, so I suggest we find this sheriff guy and beat him around a bit until he gives us our Mai back. That sounds like a good plan, doesn't it, Fin-finny-fin-fin? Oh yes it does!!

Um, sorry. But he blows spit bubbles when you tickle his foot and it's just so very very cute!

"Did I mention the townsfolk seem to find him.... unpleasant and dangerous?"
*sigh*
"I may have to kill him if he's.......

Let's find this guy, quietly. Don't want him to know we're looking for him if he has done anything."

*JadeHand checks his weapons, confirming their load, straigtens his clothing, and coughs again into a hankercheif*

"Just let me know where you want me to set up shop." Grey pats his long rifle. "We've all got comms, right?"

OOC: did you add my quote to your sig? That's just odd to me.

"I'm thinking perhaps the best bet would be a rooftop across from the jail, if she's kept there. If she's elsewhere, we need more time to locate her.
..........Have I mentioned that I love that woman? We should find her, before I regret my actons against those that fail to know what that means."

"how did this happen?"...

OOC: reality dragged me away, but I'm back.

IC: (Serenitree, engineering section) SR has the rude awakening of lying on the deck plating of engineering.

"I must have fallen asleep at my post." he ponders to himself as he struggles towards vertical. "Well I guess that's better than dead at the controls." He checks the main board and all is in the green. Things being well in hand he decides to take aquick stroll up to the the kitchen to have a snack and perhaps see if Seryn is recieving visitors now. After securing a healthy portion of leftovers from the risk of spoilage he then makes his way to Seryn's quarters where he finds a note pinned to her door.

He reads a message that informs him that Seryn has along with quite a few of the crew have gone through the portal in the security office to the American frontier circa mid to late 1800's in search of a missing Mai.
SR ponders this for a moment and then decides that he knows that Seryn's ability to take care of herself, though formidable is only equal to her ability to find trouble. He decides that though he may not be needed, he would like to see her again.
He returns to his quarters and gathers up a collection of gear.
He emerges wearing worn jeans, a ratty workshirt, heavy boots, a long coat and a wide brimmed hat. The clothes aren't really historically accurate, but they don't stand out at all. At a glance SR will appear to be just another drifter. SR has a modern .357 revolver in the pocket of his coat and big hunting knife on his belt, but he's hoping that he won't have to use either of them as he strides through the portal in the security office.
