I agree with DBERRIFF, it is much more than a JUST a tv show. It's something deeper, it draws you in and keeps you there. Once you're in Serenity, you can never leave.

Mal is my favorite character though, he's someone I could see myself slipping off to their room in the middle of the night lol. And I really like Shepherd Book's character. Zoe and Wash are my favorite couple.

Yup, I love River Tam. I love all out BDH's, but River especially. Cuz, y'know, look at her. Look at the way she moves. Listen to how she speaks. Watch how she fights. Try not to cry when she sheds a tear. Try not to feel the urge to hug her and protect her when she's scared. Plus she's damn sexy! Yup, all good my friends

River is probably my favorite character too. Just because of her weirdness and the way that her character really isn't like any that you'd see anywhere else! If I was gonna beat someone up, I would hope I would be able to do it like her.

River's my favorite character too. I first came to Firefly through the movie and I loved River. The mix of fragility and strength, of pain and innocence, to which one has to add Summer's incredible acting ability, completely sold this character to me. And it didn't hurt that she kicked major ass with the grace of a dancer. Seeing the series only made me feel for this character even more, because one can't just NOT want to hug her and cry with her when she's hurting. That's the beauty of her character, and of Summer's acting.

I agree as well that River is my favourite character although all the others have a lot to like about all of them. She has that something that you can't really describe. You WANT to love her, hug her, protect her, tell her everything will be alright.

Then there's Summers acting. Really beleivable and kind of tender. Definitely graceful.

A point I would like to make, and this requires drawing a parallel to Willow/Aly Hannigan in BTVS, is that one of the main things that made the character my favourite is not what she does when she's the centre of attention - it's what she does in the background when another character is speaking or doing something.

For example:
In BTVS when Xander is explaining why he thinks he has a special connection to Faith, Willow is the first one to get it and looks down, all sad and everything, as the others then catch on. Lots of times you can see her looking at things going on around her, or having her face react in some small way to what someone is saying.

River/Summer is the same. When she is seen smelling Inara's bed. When the baby is about to be delivered, and the actual delivery, in Heart Of Gold. Her reaction in the background when they find the ship in Bushwacked before she says 'Ghosts'.

There are many more but I hope this illustrates the point. As a side note Steve McQueen used to do this a lot in The Magnificent Seven and it really used to piss Yul Brynner off (according to the commentary)!!
