Why did I resist this show in the beginning?

i'm right there with ya. i always kinda shyied away from buffy, i just thought it was weird and kinda silly. but then, yeah, firefly got me, and next thing i knew i was looking for anything else jossish, and then i was *so* thrilled to have something that DIDNT get canceled partway through the first season. so i've been making my way through it since with netflix, up till season 5 where i just started buying, so now i've just finished season 6 (the end of which was VERY UPSETTING! WHY JOSS, WWHHYYYY!!!?!?!?), and i'm happily anticipating my next paycheck which will lead to season 7.

Unlike most, I kind of liked the movie. Not the cartoonish mess that clueless director Fran Kuzui made it into, or half the cast, but I somehow sensed the "Jossness" of it. What I mean is that there was something potentially wonderful underneath all the crap. I was big into horror at the time, too. Also knew SMG somewhat from AMC, but that didn't have all that much to do with choosing to watch, I don't think. Been a fan of the show literally since Day 1. Connected immediately with Willow (her shyness, mainly) and Xander (his dorkiness, sarcasm, and eventually, loyalty to those he loves) and the "High School As Hell" theme, the writing, the cast, and that was it for me.

And now ? I can't get enough! I can't explain, but I thank the maker for DVDs.![]()
People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

That's easy. Whenever I came across BtvS while channel surfing I always watched it for like 20 seconds and then switch channels shaking my head thinking that there are too many stupid shows on televsion. Like you I had to get hit with Firefly first which then made me think about the writer and director and what OTHER things have they done? I was shocked when I found out Joss did BtVS, and it took at least 2 months before I watched season 1 became interested. After season 2 I was hooked, and after viewing season 3 I was enslaved.

Yeah, I absolutely love the Buffy series now. But I have to confirm that I also didn't watch it when it was originally on. I think it was a combination of a couple of reasons...
1. The movie had come out not too recently and had bombed pretty bad.
2. I always thought of it as a show geared specifically to girls for some reason.
3. I was just really busy and didn't have time to watch much television anyway.
