I know what you mean - I just registered last week. People seem nice here though :) Significantly less than the normal level of bitching you normally find on forums. Although I've not done the fanforum thing before, so maybe that's why :)

It's "BIG" Oxford - I'm doing Classics here. Sadly the sci-fi group here doesn't seem to be particularly into Firefly, which is a pain. At some point I hope to educate them :) But exams this term, so not right now.

And I work in Dunsden, which is the Henley side of Reading, so all very local (sorry if everyone else in the world is getting bored...)
So if someone were to arrange a meetup in Oxford, several of us would be quite pleased, I think.

My better half works on the Reading road just south of Henley town centre - we go past Dunsden a lot (took our puppy training down that way!)
We're just the Oxford side of Henley, but I think you're right - others'll be getting bored of this

Can I pass this on to some people not on this board?
A bunch of Firefly fans who are seasoned con-goers were trying to set something up like a Shindig up, but were getting very little interest in the UK so far.
It would make sense that we all work together, and share our resources.
I know that as a first step, the crowd going to Fusion are planning a shindig-of-a-sorts at that event, as am involved in that. The plan is to get to know each other and then if there is the interest, think about a proper Shindig.
And the more fans from across Europe the better.
Heathrow is a good venue, mainly for the ease of access for the rest of Europe, and good hotels which are used to holding cons. I know from the Stargate cons that the German fans have no problem getting there. And there are many cheap flights to Heathrow at present
Ryanair fly to Stanstead, which is a bit out of the way, but there is a bus-link to Heathrow airport, which is very good, as many of the Irish fans know.

We are discussing the shindig at Fusion over at the Prospero Board under the Fusion 2004 thread, but am happy to fill in on this one, if people think it appropriate.
Another option might be to set up a Euro-Shindig mailing list on Yahoo, and see how we go from there
But I agree we should all work tgt. There are a few people out there who have experience organising get togethers and have knowledge of hotels etc. I'm good for the UK and Ireland, and I know some people in Germany and Holland.
I think a Euro-Shindig would be fantastic.
But then again, am always looking for a good excuse for a party
