Pesky side question from S- 3 : Faith and her knife.

The mayor gives Faith a wicked looking knife, I guess to show his appreciation. Later on, in the season finale, Buffy has the knife and ends up stabbing Faith with it. Buffy then taunts the ascended mayor/demon snake with the knife, saying she killed Faith with it.
Q: How did Buffy get the knife again?
I'm thinking they took it from here when Angel had Faith chained up in his mansion, but I'm not sure.

Cool ! Now I have another excuse to rewatch Buffy. Thanks... I'll go undertake some research.
Actually I remember a friend pointing that out to me at the time it first aired.

Which time do you mean? How'd she get it the first time or the second?
The first time she got it was after Faith threw it at one of the spider things the Mayor was going to eat in "Choices" and Buffy confiscates it from there.
The second time- After Faith falls from the roof in Grad Day P1 you see that Buffy still has the knife but in P2 you see her leave it on the roof. Later on in that same episode when Buffy is planning the distraction for the mayor she say something about needing to pick something up first- referring to the knife. We don't actually see her go back for the knife but it's implied.
I only know all this becuase i had the same question and closely rewatched Grad Day p2 to figure it out.

Holy cow. You are a clever minx! I didn't even catch that bit about her needing to pick up something. Totally blew right past me. That's why it's great to watch and then re-watch EVERYTHING in the Joss 'verse.
Thanks! As for the 'Choices' part, you'd naturally assume that Buffy would have just handed the knife back to Faith. Faith obviously would have wanted it back, being a valued gift from the Mayor and all. I'm all blurry on all the details of how that played out now.

but do you really think buffy would have given it back to her? she had just had it at willow's throat...--------------------------------------
