Upcoming Buffy Season 8 Comics...any thoughts?

I'm nervous about them, actually. I'm buying them, no question about that, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to connect with them the way I did with the series, the way I would with a movie. I know I could get there with novels, as I have before, even with gaping holes in the characterization. I know Joss is supposed to write the first few and the last few, but I read Fray, and although it was good, I just didn't "get there" emotionally the way I would have if it were in some other form., and these are characters I already know and love and am almost desperate in wanting to see continue, and I'm afraid of that being somehow ruined.

I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking this.

Comics are a very different medium from T.V. Joss' work with Astonishing X-Men is awesome since the X-Men existed in comics first and foremost. You're used to seeing these characters speak with word balloons and move through a scene through the different panels.

The Buffy season eight comics are going to be a little weird since it's a T.V. show now being told in the medium of a comic. The characters aren't going to speak through the actors' voices or move freely around the screen. They're suddenly words and images.

But I'm not that stressed. Joss' words are still going to be great and the plots will have all the twists and turns we're used to from the show. I'm just going to have to recall the sound of the actors' voices in my head when I read.

Though, I do have one thought I want to put out there: Is this going to be considered canon? Joss is writing it, at least the first few issues, so there's no doubt that these ideas are his, but this is a comic and stuff outside of the episodes usually aren't considered canon. Like, if Joss happens to mention what happened to Angel and Spike after the last ep of Angel, is it true then?

I don't know about Joss's comments(or comments made by other writers) being canon, but the upcoming season 8 comics are built to be 100% canon. Joss is just writing the first few issues and the last few issues, but all of the ideas are his. He'll tell the upcoming writers what to do with the story--just how it went on tv. Season 8 is supposed to be a really real season 8. I think there's even going to be around the same number of issues as a usual number of tv episodes a season.

I can only hope that Willow dumps Kennedy in the first issue.
