Oh God! I just pictured the looks on the Galactica crew's faces and now I'm laughing so hard I'm crying at my desk!

Thats what you get for electing Democrats.

Yeah if you'd voted Republican it would be happening right now. For voting Democrat you'll just have to wait for Cartoon's wishes to come true.

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!

I had some problems with the site so I could`nt post this earlier.

The original NASA release (from 2005} this guy got his info from appears to be this one.

NASA`s risk assessment on the chances of an impact from this body is here.

Dont worry people, we are all safe. NASA may land a transponder on the body in a few years, provided they get the funding!

The next close-ish shave - at a mere 17 times the distance from the Sun to the Earth - will be asteroid 2004QD14 on November 29.

That has to be a mistake. I think the writer meant between the Earth and the Moon. The distance from the Earth to the Sun is called an Astronomical Unit ( AU ), or about 93 Million Miles. 17x93 million = no where NEAR Earth. Even on the cosmological scale. Best I can find, our rock in question is, at its furthest point, just over *AU 1 distance from Earth.

So, it's definatly in our neighborhood. Along with thousands of other meteors.

* 2004QD14
Aphelion = (AU) 1.2619

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Nope, just sloppy journalism to create a sensationalistic story as usual. He seems to be confusing data from several different objects and clearly hasnt a clue what he`s talking about.

The real story is in the NASA links I posted earlier which is that the MAXIMUM probability that Apophis (wonder if the person who named it was an SG1 fan) might hit in 2036 is about 20%.
And thats assuming all the worst projections are correct and the asteroid hits the peturbation keyhole in 2029.
As NEO`s go its not even the most likely candidate for an impact, I`d be more worried about an object called 2004 VD7 which has a much higher chance of hitting sometime in 2102!
