I looked it up: whales (except the sperm whale) and dolphins each have 44 chromosomes so that seems viable.
Donkeys have 62 horses have 64, but zebras only have 44! Still, crosses are possible: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1408717.stm
