IrishBrowncoat, I think you have the idea from the postings above that there is hope, Sharing the DVD box set and movie with friends is the best way to spread the word.

There is hope. There is ALWAYS hope until Joss posts here otherwise. Even then most of us will hold out hope. It's what we do.
Your spreading the word by making gifts of the dvds is the best way to help the effort right now. We need to keep growing the fanbase by making more new people aware of the series and the movie. The more Serenity dvds that sell, the more money goes into the coffers of Universal. Needless to say the more profitable the film the more likely our odds of a sequel. So keep pushing my friend. We hold the line.

From the relationship between Joss and FOX, and FOX owning the license to the series, a TV series is pretty much out of the question.
But, a few more movies seems plausible.

Can answer this. Sci-Fi typically shoot their direct-to-TV movies in foreign countries like Romania, for a budget of around $100,000 or so. Example: last years movie "Mammoth" with Summer Glau was shot in Romania for peanuts.
To construct the Serenity set you're looking at about 50 times that amount, and then you have the actors salaries, crew, writing, producing, computer graphics etc on top of that. You need about $6m or so initial investment, and $2m an episode budget, for something like Firefly. Which is, pretty obviously, about 100 times the amount "Carnosaur 2" would cost.

its always nice to hear the optimist among us lol but i guess he is right
its the money men who control it all realy. the the will alone isnt enough.
and i wouldnt want them to do firelfy on a tiny budget as i would belive that would effect the quality of the show or movie.

My response here comes in two parts: bad news, and good news.
"The Mask", "XXX" and "Star Trek" have all been massive financial successes (Trek in varying amounts), though.
I'm not trying to troll here. Some of y'all may know I was involved in Serenity a bit. What I will say is that it's important to understand why the study isn't rushing out a sequel - not enough people went to see the first one. It's that simple.
Examples:
The Mask
Budget: $23m
Box office: $351,392,727 (DVDs on top of that, approx $1bn)
Of course it got a sequel.
What hope does Sereifly have? Direct to DVD movies. From the news wire today:
"'Babylon 5: The Lost Tales' is a direct-to-DVD project based on the popular series from the mid-1990s. Lost Tales first DVD, titled 'Voices of the Dark' has now begun production. As usual, J. Michael Straczynski and Doug Netter will be running the show with Straczynski directing. The characters, President John Sheridan (Boxleitner), Captain Elizabeth Lochley (Scoggins) and the technomage Galen (Woodward) are returning. The Lost Tales is an anthology series of sorts with two movies (previously three) per DVD starting in 2007. "
