NEW YORK (AP) -- A construction worker was jailed Tuesday on charges of murdering an actress who was found hanging from a shower rod in what looked at first like a suicide.
Diego Pillco, 19, confessed to the slaying of 40-year-old Adrienne Shelly, prosecutor Marit Delozier said at Pillco's arraignment.
"He said he fought with the victim, tied a sheet around her neck and dragged her to the bathroom and hung her from the shower rod," Delozier said. "This is an exceptionally egregious case." (Watch why Shelley's husband immediately rejected the suicide theory -- 1:20 )
Pillco was jailed without bail. His attorney, Thomas Klein, said he would file motions in Pillco's case later.
Pillco had been helping renovate an apartment in the Greenwich Village building where Shelly had an office. The New York Times quoted the prosecutor as saying Pillco got into an argument with the actress after she complained about construction noise.
She was found dead in her office last Wednesday. Police were hesitant to label the case a suicide, since no note was found and sneaker prints that did not match her shoes were found in the bathtub.
Shelly appeared in the 2005 movie "Factotum" with Matt Dillon. She also appeared in "The Unbelievable Truth" in 1989 and "Trust" in 1990.
She made her directorial debut with "Sudden Manhattan" in 1996. She recently wrote and directed the movie "Waitress," starring Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion.

They had a daughter, Sophie, who was two years old at the time of Shelly's death. At about 5:45 p.m on November 1, 2006, Shelly's husband found her hanging by a bedsheet[13] from a shower rod in the bathtub [11] of an Abingdon Square apartment in the West Village section of Manhattan's Greenwich Village.[13] Shelly, who lived in Tribeca,[11] used the apartment as an office and sublet it as a domicile to a friend. Ostroy had dropped her off between 10 and 10:30 a.m. that day, and as the building's doorman told journalists, "He hadn't heard from her and he said it was odd not to hear from her, so he was nervous. And he asked me to go up to the apartment with him, so we went to the front door, and it was unlocked". Press reports on November 6, 2006 stated that police had arrested construction worker Diego Pillco, age 19, an illegal immigrant from Ecuador.

Citizen's arrest powers always include lawful use of deadly force and justifiable homicide in self defense, and are used every day by millions of private security guards and armed private citizens every day in USA. The Gothamist reports "Manhattan assistant district attorney Marit DeLozier said that Shelly died from 'compression to the neck,' not the punch, meaning she was probably just unconscious when she was hanged. Pillco did not enter a plea and was placed under suicide watch when remanded."
The New York Times and New York Post both have more detailed descriptions of how the fight may have started.
The Post speculated: "The actress told Pillco - who speaks little English - to be quiet by putting a finger to her mouth and saying, "Shhhh," a source said.
Pillco yelled at her in Spanish to get out, descended from the ladder, picked up a hammer and pounded the floor with it before again ordering her to leave.
Pillco, who is at most an inch taller than the 5-foot-2 Shelly, then shoved her out of the apartment and closed the door. But Shelly reopened the door and slapped his face before heading back upstairs, sources said."
"Pillco followed Shelly upstairs into her apartment, where she yelled at him to leave, and called him a 'son of a bitch.' " Reports the Post.
Law-enforcement sources said he may have hit her several times, and that she became unconscious.
A police source told the Times, "[Pillco] to stage this thing because he is trying to make it go away." Another investigator told the Post that Shelly "didn't go easily" during the fight, leaving scratches on Pillco's face (Pillco explained the scratches to the other construction workers by saying he got into a fight with movers.)
The Daily News that Shelly's husband, Andrew Ostroy, who discovered her body was insistent that she did not commit suicide, "is still in shock. I don't know if he'll ever get over this."
Newsday reports that the contractor who hired Pillco expressed condolences to Ostroy and added about Pillco, "He just seemed to be another hard worker immigrant. We cannot comprehend how a regular working day turned into a crime scene."
I vote for the death penalty for the contractor who hired the illegal alien, and seizure and forfeiture of all his assets.

The US military investigated building a "gay bomb", which would make enemy soldiers "sexually irresistible" to each other, government papers say.

While the ignorant soccer moms in here watch thier Oprah and Desperate Housewives and go to their MADD meetings, there are those of us who choose to live with our eyes open. The more I think about this, the crazier I get, and that craziness is a direct result of the knowledge I have of things falling to shit around me, yet complete impotence preventing me from doing anything about them. Sometimes I feel just like Cypher and I wanna take the blue pill so I can taste steak again. Life was so much easier when I believed everything I heard on the news and I believed that if I worked real hard I could be president one day.
I guess what I'm asking you is what can we do about this? Any of this. None of my friends and I talk much anymore because for the last 4 or so years all I do is talk about all of the bullshit that's going on and all of the negative agendas which are passing by unchecked under guises of agendas which are benevolent to Americans and mankind in general.
The thing is, nobody wants to hear that.
I'm getting more and more reclusive with every news story I read, meanwhile, all of my friends are getting married. If I have solutions, maybe somebody would listen, but I don't have shit. I just constantly run at the mouth about the end of everything as we know it and I've become terminally boring and basically an unbearable person to be around for more than about an hour or two.

Yeah, that happens, the more you actually know about the world around you, the crazier you seem to others, sure, but that feeling of powerlessness is bogus, as bogus as all the other lies fed to the public by the powers that be.
One kicked pebble can cause an avalanche, believe it - think back about a decade or so and think about me wanting to wring the necks of the Catholic Church for turning a blind eye or aiding and abetting abuse... and how "impossible" it was to do anything about it... fast forward a decade, my how things change.

Sure, the reclusiveness happens, but thing is... it's not that they don't know, people are not nearly as dumb as assumed, far from it, what it IS.. is that they've seen it, and then used denial to make it not a part of THEIR reality anymore, and utterly resent anyone rubbing their nose in it, you see ?
I basically keep my mouth shut when there obviously ain't no point to discussing things with someone, and when asked give only enough information to guide them to finding the rest out for themselves.. if they have the interest and the will, they'll do so, if not, oh well.

Every week go speak at Public Forum in your city council and county commission. Cost is free. You can discuss any topic for 3 to 5 minutes, no matter what the commission agenda is that week. Some folks actually do that religiously. That's called "democracy" in a republic, tho the criminals in charge have already predecided all their crimes for that week, such as looting the Top Secret CAFR "govt pension" funds, and handing out no-bid cost-plus blank-check govt contracts to their "campaign contributors'". Even small towns broadcast those public meetings on cable access TV, as required by their govt monopoly contract. That's why the dictators at Blount County Commission in Tennessee illegally banned Public Forum last week, since twice as many members of the sheeple were speaking, than members of the commission. This censors the sheeple from CATV in Blount County, since ALL sheeple are illegally banned from cable access TV in Blount County. Blount County is one of the Bush Gang's multi-billion-dollar/year cocaine/heroin delivery points. Those sheeple will just have to fight that battle in the courts.
Get your own weekly cable access TV show. Trust me when I say you'll feel better. My annual fee is $25. Politicians, Industry leaders, businessmen, doctors, laywers, judges, police chiefs - and even some of the younger generations of our generational "elite" and thus unspoken royalty - these are the ears you must reach, the wills you must bend, in order to have a realistic impact.
It's like the difference between using brute force and tons of TNT to blow a bridge, versus using a very small shaped charge in the right place - knowledge and placement is everything, and the better your intel, the better your ability to convince, the more effective those efforts will be.

To each their own, yah - part of the reason for my MO is the desired for continued existence, something unlikely for a more subtle operator if they are identified.
For myself, I operate under the "I do not exist, this conversation never happened." ruleset when dealing with members of the status quo, because the only surety of a traitor to any cause, is that they'll turn on you if the deal is rich enough - so you bend them, use them to do as much damage as possible, and then you abandon them to their ignoble fate, killing two birds with one stone.
If they wanted to be all noble and heroic, they'd have never become part of that crap in the first place, and I have neither sympathy nor mercy for them.
Sure, there's an effectiveness to larger media methods (how bout diggin up a copy of that Hunt/Sturgis photo for us, for example?) but we also serve those who sit in the shadows and whisper, and wait.

WASHINGTON – While the military "quagmire" in Iraq was said to tip the scales of power in the U.S. midterm elections, most Americans have no idea more of their fellow citizens – men, women and children – were murdered this year by illegal aliens than the combined death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan since those military campaigns began.
Though no federal statistics are kept on murders or any other crimes committed by illegal aliens, a number of groups have produced estimates based on data collected from prisons, news reports and independent research.
Twelve Americans are murdered every day by illegal aliens, according to statistics released by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. If those numbers are correct, it translates to 4,380 Americans murdered annually by illegal aliens. That's 21,900 since Sept. 11, 2001.
Total U.S. troop deaths in Iraq as of last week were reported at 2,863. Total U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan during the five years of the Afghan campaign are currently at 289, according to the Department of Defense.
But the carnage wrought by illegal alien murderers represents only a fraction of the pool of blood spilled by American citizens as a result of an open border and un-enforced immigration laws.
While King reports 12 Americans are murdered daily by illegal aliens, he says 13 are killed by drunk illegal alien drivers – for another annual death toll of 4,745. That's 23,725 since Sept. 11, 2001.
While no one – in or out of government – tracks all U.S. accidents caused by illegal aliens, the statistical and anecdotal evidence suggests many of last year's 42,636 road deaths involved illegal aliens.
A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.
Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked – and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers.
King also reports eight American children are victims of sexual abuse by illegal aliens every day – a total of 2,920 annually.
Based on a one-year in-depth study, Deborah Schurman-Kauflin of the Violent Crimes Institute of Atlanta estimates there are about 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States who have had an average of four victims each. He then took a sheet, choked her to death, and made it look like a suicide.

In retrospect, it's still appalling at how quickly the police were willing to write-off the life of such a beautiful, happily married, successful woman by simply calling her death a suicide.
The initial press coverage was totally inexcusable, blaming the female victim by printing many sensationalist headlines like, "Actress Set Off Illegal's "KILLER" Rage by Calling Him 'S.O.B." and other similar comments--headlines laced with innuendo against the actress by printing the killer's version of the story as if it were some kind of gospel.
The press was quick to make Shelly out as an irate actress yelling profanities at a poor hard-working immigrant. These headlines set off a firestorm of comments on whether or not she had any right to call him names! Implying that her bad temper probably caused him to lose control, and even worse creating a debate among idiots that actually believed these reports because they were printed in the press. Many people were commenting on how she might have avoided these tragic events if only she hadn't yelled at him! Are people really that stupid?
Many media outlets also took it upon themselves to make Pillco, the brutal murderer, look angelic with bold headlines stating "how respectful and decent and responsible he was" and that "he was just another hardworking immigrant."
Pillco’s cousin also told The Post that the accused killer was “quiet and peaceful. He didn’t have a temper,” and was working to pay off his smuggling debt, and to support his parents and five siblings back in Ecuador."
I think we've all heard similar comments from the family and friends of serial killers. If the media is going to defend the accused with such winning personality profiles. It would be nice if they would have taken the time to do the same for the victim, shedding even a remote amount of positive light in her direction.
Bottom line is that the media should have done a much better job considering the circumstances of this case. A defendant who brutally killed the victim and then made it look like a suicide, this in itself is especially egregious, not to mention the fact that he calmly went to work at another job site afterwards.
So why would his side of the story be printed word for word as the ultimate truth?
Pillco may have been hard working as many immigrants are, but he was obviously very mentally disturbed. If he hadn't been stupid enough to leave those mysterious shoe prints on her toilet (while hanging her still breathing body), and if her loving and devoted husband hadn't been so diligent by refusing to accept her death as a suicide, this cold blooded killer would most likely still be walking the streets.
