Outland, a forgotten classic 'grunge' SF movie.

I had to come back and mention another fine piece of work by Mr. Connery. A truely inspired example of cinéma vérité that would have made Timothy Leary proud... i'm referring of course to Zardoz... a quirky little ditty that was known not so much for it's Giant Floating Stone Head as the bare naked tatas that were scattered throughout the film... at least that's pretty much all i remember about it (the bare naked tatas, that is)... course i was just a teenager at the time and bare naked tatas were very high on my list of desirable film attributes...
does anyone even remember what that film was about...?
hmmm, bare naked tatas... (sorry - teenage flashback)

Zardoz was John Boorman's (Excalibur) acid-trip take on a future run like The Wizard of Oz.
Not bad, if you can deal with the artsy-ambiguity of many scenes.

Possibly the greatest foot chase ever filmed!
Also the greatest ending to a foot chase!
When Spota's cornered in the kitchen, and eyeing that butcher's knife, O'Neil get's that "I'm too tired" look, and unloads his riot gun around Spota's head: "Think it over."
Bloody priceless!

Warriors had a good one too, but not in this league.
Plus, Peter Hyams is a HELL of a cinematographer.
I'll say it again; Outland is a flimsy idea, executed with style and precision. It's criminal that a really good DVD is not available...

Yeah, I haven't heard of as many director/cinematographers as I have writer/directors.
How many of those have there been?
And you've reminded me of a great little company back in those days, called the Thinking Cap Co.
They put out the official Nostromo cap from ALIEN, the Federal Security Agency & ConAm 27 caps from Outland... I had 'em all!

well I was on the verge of thinking I needed to see Outland, when Grizwald posted that truly horrific picture of Sean...Now I'm not so sure. LOL I think I may like to keep my suave,debonair mental image of Sean Connery:)
