I'm from Bremen, Germany.
I've seen the Show on DVD and really love it, so it would be a great idea to have an european shinding somewhere over here

Like I mentioned before, the easiest place to get to in Europe is probably London. So joking aside, I have to agree with the somewhere outside London plan.
I´ve seen both Angel and Buffy in German (and French for that matter, while we´re on the subject of dubs). If I lived in Germany I think I´d long to hear the original voices. Most German speaking movie buffs I know buy DVDs directly from the US in order to get around the dubbing.

I totally agree with you! I love watching movies, but in most cases, the german dubbing is really really bad, and it's always much more interesting and honest to a movie / series episode to watch it in its original language and to hear the actor's real voices. I could not imagine to see Firefly one day dubbend on german TV, they would ruin it like all the other shows...

I’ve had it explained to me (mainly by French speakers) that the reason why they dub is A) many people don’t speak other languages B) they are very protective of their own language and don’t want too much foreign influence.
I can maybe understand A)… although I think subtitles are far faaaaaaaar better since you get to hear the original performance and have a chance to learn the language. As for reason B), that’s just plain silly. There’s always been a lot of foreign language influence on all European languages. It’s a part of the natural evolvement of a language and has been for as long as humans came up with the concept of language in the first place. Ack! I’m rambling again, aren’t I? (I could go on about this subject forever. I’ll just go ahead and round it up now.)
Anyway, I have a hard time deciding which the most stupid alternative is: The way some European countries choose to dub TV shows and movies, or the way the census in Northern American puts a gag on people’s rights to free expression. (I.e. not allow certain words to be used.) Stupidity is alive and well on both sides of the pond.
