I can't believe I'm the first person to comment on Amber Benson's appearance on Supernatural last night.

It was kinda wierd to see sweet little Tara all grungy and black-haired and badass, but still; Amber Benson! As a vampire! A good vampire! Named Lenore!!

I can't help but think that there's an intentional Joss reference in there.

Best of all: having her survive makes it possible to bring her back at some point.

Is Supernatural good? Should I get the first season?

I've enjoyed it, and I didn't see that episode until today. I was shocked to see her myself. !st season also had Amy Acker in one episode. Worth checking out.

"But you sleep like a ghost with me
It's as simple as that
So tell me I'm mad
Roll me up and breathe me in
Come to my madness
My opium den
Come to my madness
Make sense of it again."

Absa-frelling-lutely.

It's like a little horror-movie every week, with a perfect balance of snark and badassitude, and characters who aren't necessarily invulnerable (they spend a bit of time in hospitals, and the S1/S2 bridge is gut-wrenching in terms of one very dramatic death). It starts out looking all "monster-of-the-week," but then the ongoing arc kicks into high gear about midway through.

All this plus a really cool car.

Also, it has Jensen Ackles, who played Alec on that other show. (I've also noticed similar colour pallets to DA; they both seem to go for that gritty, washed-out atmospheric stuff. The soundtrack is more classic rock than punk, though.)

I can't say that I think it is worth getting,
maybe you should rent a couple of episodes (figure out when Amy was on) from netflix before buying....

but it was fun seeing Amber Benson last night,
and evidently Summer Glau is on NEXT Thursday night!

I actually caught this episode while channel surfing and watched it from the beginning. I liked it. I was surprised to Amber Benson playing the vampire Lenore, but thought she did a good job.

I am now wanting to go rent the 1st season to check it out. Should I?

I've been watching Supernatural since it started, I enjoy it, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It's fun and it deals with subjects I'm interested in but it's pretty cheesy and melodramatic. In all honestly I think half the reason I watch it is for the eye-candy ;)

I would recommend watching it on TV but I'm not sure I'd encourage anyone to go out and spend $50 on the DVD set. I had thought about getting the DVDs but they're way over priced, in my opinion. I say watch some of the current episodes and see if you like it and make a decision from there.

Very few DVDs are worth buying (Firefly of course), but I would definitely suggest a rental of Supernatural.

Having only seen a few episodes I took a leap of faith by ordering S1. I agree $50 is way too much for any DVD set but you can usually find a good price by checking around a little. Found a set on e-bay for $30 which includes the shipping cost.

Now if I could just find some reasonably priced sets of Farscape I'd be content. The price on those things is ridiculous, especially those Starburst editions which are broken up into partial seasons!? What the fuck is that all about? Got a little off topic there, rant over.
