What if Spike never recieved the chip from the Initiative? Would he have slept w/Buffy? Saved Sunnydale and the world? Fought alongside Angel?

I want to say no. As much as I love Spike. I think if he never got the chip in his head he would've just ended up another notch in Buffy's stake instead.

So, while Spike taunted Angel about him choosing to get his soul back while Angel had his forced back on him, the chip was every bit the curse that the gypsy's was for tall dark and brooding, eh? One was magic and the other was science, and both achieved the same ends.

Difference was, Spike was fun.

Psychotic, chaotic, anarchic. But a lot more amusing than a syphilitic drunk cod-Irishman. With poofy hair.

Pre-chip Spike was already crushing on Buffy. The chip stopped him getting staked long enough to have something approaching a conversation.

Then, my list of favourite men runs along the lines of Spike, young Lex, Draco, Jayne, Snake Plissken, John Constantine (the REAL one), Jack Sparrow...

Forget the cannolli. Bring the guns.

This is a little off-topic from the subject of this thread, but I figure that everyone reading it is probably a Spike fan, so...

If you get a chance, you oughta check out the new Buffy novel "Blackout". It's set in 1977 New York, and fills out the story of Spike, Nikki, et al, and all the events surrounding those too-brief flashbacks in "Fool for Love" and "Lies My Parents Told Me". (It'll spoil you nearly thru to the end of S7, tho, so if you don't want that, only pick it up after finishing the series.)

A large percentage of the previous Buffy and Angel novels have been underwhelming, to say the least, but the two latest ones--"Blackout", and "Go Ask Malice" (about Faith, pre-SunnyD)--are very good, and give reason to hope that maybe future ones will match their quality. I know KRAD is a sometimes-poster here, so if you're reading this, Keith--awesome job, dude!!

That is a very big IF.

Umm...

There are a lot of things to take into consideration.

We can tell Spike already had the hots for Buffy in School Hard. The way he watches her on the dance floor.

Dru knew, the flash back in Fool For Love. The whole "I look at you and all I see is the Slayer"

And though Buffy never gave any indication I like to think she had the hots for him too.

If she can hate him then that means she respects him. The same holds to him. Many things can some from respect. Trust. Comdardary. Friendship.

Spike never lost that spark of humanity in him. William just had too big of a heart for the demon to kill. The way he sires his mother. The Judge telling him that he reeked of humanity. The way he talks with Joyce over hot cocco...

I think he would have followed a similar path if he hadn't had the chip implanted. He still would have loved Dawn like a daughter and still wanted to shag Buffy senceless
