The premiere of "Heroes" (8.8/13) led the 9:00 hour among total viewers and was the night's top show among adults 18-49.
I don't see them canceling it unless it shows a steep drop-off!
I really liked the first episode of Heroes. The Japanese guy was definitely my favorite character so far.
The problem with 9:00 on Mondays...Heroes, Vanished, Runaway, and Monday Night Raw all at the same time. I only watch tv stuff between 7:00 and 9:30, then I go to bed, so thank goodness I have 2 dvrs for Mondays at 9:00.

As for the cheerleader, my guess is the mirror image was just a stylistic choice by the director to imply that she has the capability to astrally project her spirit out of her body. I would bet than in the future we will find out that other people can see her "other self."

I have to say, aside from my annoyance with the effects on the cheerleader's healing ability, her characterization really bothered me.
Why was she so upset? How exactly does being nigh-invulnerable translate to ruining your life? Yeah, sure, you might get some odd responses from people who see you break yourself in half, and then instantly heal. But that's not such a problem if you stop trying to injur yourself.
She was the only one upset about her new powers, and hers is potentially the most usefull, and easily concealable power of al so far.

Actually, what interested me about "Cheerverine" is that she's not just the typical airheaded bimbo (I'd say "stereotypical," but I've met too many cheerleaders). Her obvious friendship with camera-guy (and her "payment" --talking to him in public at school tomorrow) suggests that there's more to her than we've seen.
She seems to realize the whole "Great Power = Great Responsibility" thing --simply hiding her gift and having a normal life isn't an option for her, not when she has the power/responsibility to help people. Note how quick she is to rush into that train wreck, and what she does as soon as she sees the guy inside.
It's also possible that she expects people to try to turn her into a specimen if they find out --a valid concern even if she doesn't know what daddy does for a living.

I'll agree that she wasn't depeicted as the general airhead bimbo, but her "payment" implied to me she's the typical popular b!tch that generally only talks to those of her "status" at school (I teach High School, so I see this a lot).
And she didn't go into the train wreck for any noble reason, or to face her responsibility. She helped the guy once she got there, yes, but she went in as just another experiment. And she did it with witnesses, which undermines her position of being afraid people will find out about her.

As luck would have it, Global showed the pilot almost a week after the debut, which I was glad for since I was able to catch up on it. And I'm glad I did.
The cheerleader and the Japanese guy are obviously my faves. With the flying guy, I can understand why they don't show him actually flying (this being network tv, probably don't have the budget to see him go all SUPERMAN), but I hope they can expand on him and his background. The painter who can see the future I can do without, and I'm not sure about Ali Larter.
But it's obvious that there'a lot more going on with Buffy 2.0, whose sub-plot I see as sort of an alternate take on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Probably a mroe serious version of BUFFY. And after seeing the full Hiro sub-plot, I think I know why he's already a fan favorite after one ep.
Next to Johnny Storm off of the FANTASTIC FOUR movie, he's the first person in all the superhero tvshows and movies that have come out in the last ten years that seems to actually enjoy having his powers. All the other heroes on the show from one degree to another, feel burdened. Either they see themselves as being cursed with these powers, or that they see this as a reluctant call to arms. But Hiro, upon discovering his powers, is absolutely ecstatic about it. He actually sees the fun in this. I guess in that being a sci-fi and comic book geek, he sees this as hitting the jackpot, and not only is he accepting of his newfound powers, but is ready to jump (or in his case teleport) feet first into this with a grin on his face.
I think it's really this fresh take on the superhero genre, at least in Hiro's case, is what's going to have people coming back for more.
