Didn't think there was any discussion about which nation was the most successful. Despite the whole colinization thing, I'm a big fan of England. Always have been, but that's not the point here. Some twit claims that the only good 'yankee' is a dead one. Can't let that one slide by.( Although being a Southerner, I do find that term funny and offensive a bit at the same time ) While I'd never judge an entire people for the comments of one moron who posts on a message board, it seems the same can't be said for oldengldanddry. Maybe his pop( or grandpop ) was an American GI who he never got to meet. Can't imagine the origins of such a dislike for us though. Now, if I were FRENCH....I'd understand.

Just the idea that you came to our aid and YOU defeated the Nazis. The attitude is obvious in Hollywood films. Americans captured the enigma (no they didn't U571) no British, Canadians or Australians were involved in the D-Day landings (yes they were Saving Private Ryan).
The Battle of Britain had already been won. America wasn't strong enough to beat Nazi Germany, neither was the UK or the USSR. America didn't beat the Nazi's, the Allies did, and it took all the allies because none of them could do it on their own.

I think I made it clear we came to YOUR aid and ( TOGETHER ) we defeated the NAZIs. Why so defensive ? I'm well aware of y'alls finest hour , and I say we should still celebrate it today.
The WW2 generation is indeed dying off. Sadly. Great folks, they are. There's talk that if we were faced w/ the same threats they faced 60 yrs ago, we'd fare far far worse. It's hard to believe the level of animosity displayed by oldendlanddry even exists outside of the local Muslim community in London. It's just an eye opener to hear that sort of stuff. England rates at the top of the list for most Americans. ( Those who can find it on a map, that is ) That is all.
