Rowan’s Move:
Location: Engine room, still hiding and befriending Kaylee
------------------
Kaylee: Jayne's not a bad sort, really. He's just...Jayne. Ya shoulda seen him when 'Nara had a female client on board…Any man that still writes ta his ma ain't all bad, yeah?
------------------
Rowan's laugh almost echos Kaylee's - she can’t help it. The image of the big fella hunched over a letter to his mother, trying to rework his spelling in a manner that's hopefully accurate is too much to take.
ROWAN: His name’s Jayne? Now that is unexpected. He looks more like a Hank, Dave, a Chuck or I don’t know, Duke maybe.
Contemplating it a bit, she frowns upon reaching a determination.
ROWAN: And yet it fits him. Qquíguài.
Reaching over her head to pull her hair aside, Rowan turns to peer down the passageway again. The volume seems to have lowered considerably and no gunfire has erupted as of yet. That young fella just might last the night after all. Or at least until the end of dinner. Breathing a long sigh, she turns back to Kaylee.
ROWAN: So how long have you been keeping Serenity’s heart and soul in the palm of your hand?
Translations:
Qquíguài - Odd

Damon's turn:
Damon glares at Brink as he passes by. How come that bun tyen-shung duh ee-dway-ro gets by with a sorry, here take my money, I'll talk to you all later? He's the one they should be worried about ex-Alliance, using psychic powers, and then excusing himself like he owns the place?
Damon looks back to the remaining people in the room.
(OOC: which is Mal, Zoe, Jayne and Wash?)
He settles his gaze on the captain and the woman next to him. "What happens now?"

Book's Move
Location: Bottom of aft stairs, blocking Brink's way.
Book looks at the determined man, trying to persuade him to step aside. He judges his motives quickly (as a shepherd should not), and doesn't move.
Book to Brink Helsing
"You may have every bit of good intentions, but that girl's under my protection. If what you say is true, say it to me first. You may get your chance to talk with her... after you talk to me.
First, tell me what danger you think she is in. Then, tell me why you think I'd let you put her in further danger by putting her anywhere near you."
Book breathes deep, pulling back his shoulders and looks Brink Helsing deep in the eyes as he awaits an answer, studying every movement he makes.

Inara's turn
Inara follows Brink Helsing down the hallway and up the stairs into the common room, then toward the crew quarters. Breathing a sigh of relief at Book's insistence that he leave River be, Inara sets off toward her shuttle to retrieve the stacking dolls she bought River earlier in the day.
Figuring it would be a perfect oppourtunity to not only give poor River a bit of comfort and make sure she heard as little as possible of the conversation, but to also listen in a bit herself.
Inara enters her shuttle, things are still strewn about. Sighing at the mess, Inara retrieves the little pink-wrapped box she had stowed there earlier.
Inara turns around and heads back to the crew quarters, and finds Book and Helsing facing off against one another.
squeezing past the glaring men, Inara enters River's room and finds the girl curled up in the middle of her bed, looking for the world like a lost child.
Inara smiles and offers the shiny package to River.
Keeping a keen ear out for any disturbances from outside, Inara watches River examine her gift.
End Inara's turn

OOC: Sorry to reply to my own post, but I felt Book needed some back-up. Since CapnRahn is currently incommunicado and Merc is still catching up, I am gonna play a move for Simon because I don't think he could have been alive and within earshot of what Helsing just said and did without following. If this doesn't flow, let me know.
Simon's Move
Location: Galley
Simon, exhausted and overstimulated, gratefully watches Book lead off River. Hearing Brink Helsing say he is going to talk to River, Simon is stunned for a moment.
"Did he just say? .... is he going? ..... HEY!
Jumps to his feet and regrets it as his heads starts to pound and swim with images and voices.
Aaauugh.
Simon stumbles as quickly as possible out the rear of the galley after Helsing. He finds Helsing at the bottom of the stairs in confrontation with Book, and he stops a fews steps above Helsing with a barely contained rage.

Kaylee's Move
"Oh, I been here close ta the whole time Capn's had Serenity. He had another mechanic 'fore me, and he was alright I guess. I jus' seemed to know a bit more. My parents sent me off with good wishes, knowin' I could do some decent things in the 'verse. I'd like ta go visit 'em again, but this is my home now. Don't know what I'd do if I couldn't work on Serenity any more."
Kaylee frowns a little as her mind once again skims over the circumstances of her employment.
"I just don't know," she repeats softly.
End Move

Rowan's Move:
The emotions in Kaylee's words are warm, but with a tinge of sadness that easily manages to tug at Rowan's heart. She may be young, but the girl has seen her fair share of the 'verse. Hearing her talk about Serenity as home also inspires a small twinge of jealousy.
ROWAN: You're lucky to have found your home, Kaylee. There are some who search a lifetime for it and never find it. I've heard it said that you can be born in one place, but the only place you can call home is where your heart lives.
Xiang Rowan thinks to herself as she closes her eyes. Just his name brings his strong features to mind, his intense gaze that could always see right through her. The image of him in her mind is as clear now as it was the last moment she saw him seven years ago. Xiang, where are you? What have they done to you?
Taking a long breath to steady herself, she looks at Kaylee. Seeing the girl's earnest concern, she tries a reassuring smile that fails miserably.
ROWAN: Some find it and have it stolen away. It's a precious thing, Kaylee--if you found it, you hold onto it. It isn't likely to come along twice.

Inara's turn
Inara sits perched on the edge of River's bed, smiling brightly as River slowly and mothodically tears open her gift.
First, she runs a nail along the tape at each end, gradually loosening the adhesive. She folds the edges back, and squints, one eye held up to the opening. Nodding to herself, she then starts on the seam where the two pieces of paper join in the back.
eyes still trained on River, Inara hears stumbling steps echo down the short hall. Checking to make sure River is still engrossed, Inara slides to the door and peeks out.
Book's broad back is to the door, his arms crossed over his chest in the classic "thou shalt not enter" pose. The man seems to have a talent for intimidation to rival Jayne's when the mood strikes him.
Brink Helsing is facing the door, and as she peeks out, their eyes meet. She feels a brief flash of pain, but chalks it up to her earlier illness. His eyes are on Book's face, and he looks less than pleased.
The final player in the unfolding drama outside River's door is Simon, who is standing behind Helsing swaying slightly.
Rage and weariness war on his features, but the determined set of his jaw gives her pause. He could do some damage to Brink if his sister is threatened any longer.
Hoping to diffuse the situation, Inara steps out, closing the door quietly behind her. Simon...I'm sure River would like to see you--come inside. Glancing at Helsing and Book--her eyes pleading for them to solve this elsewhere, she holds the door ajar for Simon. He glares at Slight, then brushes against her as he passes, and is inside.
Inara turns to face the two remaining:
TO SLIGHT: Mr. Helsing...Slight...I'm sure you can see now is not the time for....whatever you believe your purpose is with River. I guarantee she is not of a mind to be a danger to anyone right now. Please..just go back upstairs. There will certainly be time later for this.
TO BOOK: Shepherd, thank you....her significant look tells him what for. Without him, things could have been much worse.
Giving one last piercing look to both men, Inara turns and reenters River's room.
End Inara's turn

OOC: *sigh* they've all abandoned me/him, left me at the mercy of Mal and Zoe...

I'd/Damon would probably be off somewhere else too (probably the infirmery) if it weren't for the fact that Mal would blow his head off... lol
Well, I guess I'll just have to wait until morning to hear the verdict... it'll be a sleepless night
Night all, I'll try to be up early so I won't miss all the action

Kaylee's Move
Location: In a philosophical discussion with Rowan.
"I'm sorry to hear about yer troubles, Rowan. There's enough wrong in the 'verse without outside forces addin' to it. If it's true that home is wherever yer heart is, maybe we all just have to accept that. Sometimes ya need to make yer own happiness, and the rest can go hang."
Having said her piece, Kaylee continues to bang away on the engine.
End Move
